GENERAL
Rider J Huxtable was absent from today’s meeting for acceptable reasons, Apprentice M Goring was also absent due to personal reasons. Changes made as per the Stewards Summary.
As apprentice J Williams had not obtained a satisfactory medical clearance, he was replaced by Apprentice O Webb in race 1. Apprentice Williams was permitted to leave the racecourse to seek a consultation with a local medical practitioner, who provided a satisfactory clearance, which then allowed Apprentice Williams to fulfil his later riding engagements.
The following runners competed at Gatton on 1st August 25 and undertook a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to start:
R4: ROYAL GEORGE, CAVALHEIRO
R5: CALMER KARMA, HEAVENLY AZ, MISS HELMUT.
Race 1: RAHEEN STUD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
LOS ALAMITOS – Bounded on jumping, dislodging Apprentice O. Webb. Following the running of this race, Apprentice O. Webb advised she had soreness to her left knee and was examined by the QAS officials and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of LOS ALAMITOS revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Townsend was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
MR WORTHINGTON – Taken wider rounding the home turn by the riderless LOS ALAMITOS.
RAPID READY – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 1200m, rider N Tomizawa was obliged to take hold and shift out to avoid the heels of MISHANI GLAZE (O. Kendal) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
KACHINA GIRL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI GLAZE – Apprentice O. Kendal pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 1200m, she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RAPID READY (N. Tomizawa), obliging its rider to take hold and shift out to avoid the heels of MISHANI GLAZE. Apprentice Kendal’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at the conclusion of another suspension starting from 24th of August 2025 up to and including 30th August 2025. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Apprentice Kendal’s guilty plea, record in relation to this rule, status of an apprentice and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.App Kendal was advised of her right to an appeal. Laid out under pressure in the home straight, obliging apprentice O. Kendal to stop riding and straighten her mount on multiple occasions.
MISTEMBA – Slow to begin.
Race 2: LYNDHURST STUD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 800 M
AKAKA FALLS – Tightened for room shortly after the start.
UNO MOON – Slow to begin.
PALAWA KANI – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
KAT CHINNA – Slow to begin.
HOKUSAI – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
ALBION SQUARE (GB) - Near the 500m was momentarily steadied when racing to the inside of PALAWA KANI, which was laying in.
Race 3: SUBZERO AIRCON CLASS 1 PLATE & MAIDEN PLATE 800 M
MY SICADA – Slow into stride. Near the 600m, bumped with I’M A CHOCOHOLIC.
GREEN PARK – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
I'M A CHOCOHOLIC – Near the 600m, bumped with MY SICADA. Near the 250m, was momentarily hampered when racing between MY SICADA and SHE’S MY LADY, when both runners shifted ground.
SHE'S MY LADY – Rider A Thompson was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 500m, he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CASUAL MAN tightening that runner obliging it to be checked and lose its rightful running. A Thompson’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 14 days to commence 14th August up to and including 27th August 2025.When determining penalty Stewards considered A. Thompson’s poor record in relation to this rule and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines. A Thompson was advised of his right to an appeal.
CASUAL MAN – Began awkwardly. Near the 500m was tightened and checked, losing its rightful running.
ATLANTIC LACE – Slow to begin.
LADY ENCRYPTEAU – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 4: HUTCHISON CONTRACTING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1500 M
DRIALLE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MAURICE'S MEDAD – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
POWERFUL EAGLE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1300m, commenced to over race when being steadied.
LONDON POINT (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
CAVALHEIRO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
Race 5: PICKLEBET RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1100 M
COUNT NICHOLAS – Slow into stride and then tightened for room and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
CALMER KARMA – Raced wide for the majority. Held up for clear running between the 250m to 200m.
GIGGY – Bumped on jumping. Shifted in abruptly near the 250m.
HI JULES – Raced wide throughout.
KAYTEE WISDOM – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SEACRYPTION – Slow to begin. Leaving the 400m, shifted out and bumped DIVINE RENDEZVOUS.
HEAVENLY AZ – Raced keenly in the early stages.
DELORIS – Near the 800m, tightened for room and steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of SEACRYPTION. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 200m and went to the line without being tested.
MISS HELMUT – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping with GIGGY.
DIVINE RENDEZVOUS – Bumped by SEACRYPTION leaving the 400m.
Race 6: ATHOL LEWIS MEMORIAL RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 H’CAP 1350 M
PROPONENT – Shifted in at the start and bumped SKEPTICAL before shifting out and taking CHANCE WITH WOLVES out which in turn hampered BOKUDEN. Rider S Sheargold was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. S Sheargold was also reprimanded pursuant to LR48 for leaving the course without permission from Stewards.
SWITCHBLADE - Had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and was hampered leaving the 1000m by SHANNON’S LEGACY, which shifted when being restrained when over-racing. Approaching the 900m, improved into a narrow run between SHANNON’S LEGACY and MORICONI. Continued to over-race resulting in jockey N. Fazackerley attempting another hold when being awkwardly placed on heels and as a result shifted wider.
BOKUDEN – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
LITTLE SHOW – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CHISUM – Near the 900m bumped with SHANNON’S LEGACY. When over-racing improved onto the heels of SKEPTICAL when the pace slackened leaving the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore flexor tendon. Trainer R Watts was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
SHANNON'S LEGACY –Whilst racing keenly near the 1000m, was restrained off heels and obliged to shift out hampering SWITCHBLADE. Near the 900m bumped with CHISUM. Passing the 800m was forced wider by CHISUM, which shifted out to avoid heels when the pace slackened.Near the 100m, steadied when racing between WANT TO BE PROUD and CHANCES WITH WOLVES, which was taken in by LITTLE SHOW (App C Francis), which laid in under pressure. Apprentice C Francis was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
WANT TO BE PROUD – Shifted out and away from SWITCHBLADE near the 1100m bumping with CHOCKABLOCK. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
EJAY'S FIREFOX – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start, was removed, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Taken out at the start.
CHOCKABLOCK – Bumped near the 1100m and was momentarily unbalanced.
SKEPTICAL – Bumped on jumping. Jockey B Lerena stated from the 800m he felt something may have been amiss with the mare and as such elected not to place the mare under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 7: CRISPY CRACKLING CLASSIC BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP 1500 M
MAN IN THE MIRROR – Raced wide throughout.
GUNBOAT – Raced wide throughout.
JAKAT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 200m was checked and blundered.
SPRING DAZE – Slow to begin. Rider C Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 200m he directed his mount to shift out abruptly when insufficiently clear of JAKAT obliging it to be checked and blunder. C Bayliss’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 15 days to commence 10th August up to and including 24th August 2025.When determining penalty, Stewards considered C. Bayliss’s guilty plea, record in relation to this rule and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines. C Baylis was advised of his rights to an appeal.
WHITTAKER – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
KING’S WARRIOR - Trainer M Morrison was reprimanded under the provisions of AR106(2) for presenting the gelding with a tongue tie, which is not listed on the horse’s gear.
