GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 1. B. Lerena +0.5kg
Race 3. M. Hellyer: +0.5kg
As jockey J. Molloy was not riding at this meeting due to illness, rider changes were made as per the Raceday Stewards Summary. Jockey Molloy was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to riding again.
Jockey A. Thompson was replaced in Race 1 due to transport difficulties.
Stewards intend to inquire into an incident in Race 5 over the concluding stages involving FLYING BIRDS (ridden by App J Williams) to a time and date yet to be fixed.
RACE 1: TINT TECH & AUTO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 Metres
CHEVALLUM - Laid in under pressure in the home straight before being corrected by the rider.
YES DONALD YES - Near the 400m, became awkwardly placed on heels of the weakening BETTER FOR IT and shifted wider. Raced wide for the majority.
BETTER FOR ITP - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
MAFIOSA - Raced keenly during the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
GRIGIA - Slow to begin.
CROSS OF SCARLET - Slow to begin.
SOUTHAMPTON NICCO - Raced wide for the majority.
RACE 2: PICKLEBET GET YOUR PICKLE ON BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 800 Metres
RED BOOMSHAKALAKA - Over raced in the early stages.
SUTHERLAND - Laid in under pressure in the home straight before being corrected by the rider.
MINOR KEY - Slow to begin.
CHAYSE'N'SCOTTY - Slow to begin.
COPPER SUNSET - Approaching the 550m, steadied from the heels of CHAYSE’N’SCOTTY which was taken inwards when DEVILS RITE was dictated inwards by RED BOOMSHAKALAKA which had shifted in when insufficiently clear of DEVILS RITE. After considering the evidence, Stewards accepted that whilst DEVILS RITE had contributed to this incident, by racing away from RED BOOMSHAKALAKA, apprentice B. Baker (rider of RED BOOMSHAKALAKA) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident. Trainer T Pascoe was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for being difficult to load.
STREET DAZZLER – Trainer G. Banks was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying clinical signs of heat stress. Trainer G. Banks was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to STREET DAZZLER racing again.
LITTLEMISSCANCAN - Jumped awkwardly and was tightened for room shortly after the start.
RACE 3: GG RACING CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1500 Metres
JOHNNY THE KID - Approaching the 200m, shifted out abruptly before being corrected by its rider then shortly after bumped with PIMPERNEL. Raced wide for the majority.
AIRSWING- L TILLEY - Near the 1200m, was eased when the pace of the race slackened. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
HURRICANE ROSIE - Slow into stride.
SOMETHING FORJO - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ARDUOUS – Near the 1200m, whilst over racing, was eased.
SHOUTS ALL DAY - Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PIMPERNEL – Bumped shortly after the start. Bumped near the 150m.
RACE 4: ENSBEY ELECTRICAL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 Metres
Declaration of correct weight was delayed when Apprentice O. Webb, rider of 2nd placegetter HELLO DOLLY DIVA, elected to lodge a protest against SWANFELS (Jockey K. Wilson -Taylor) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. Prior to evidence being taken, apprentice Webb upon further consideration elected to withdraw the objection and correct weight was declared on the judges’ numbers.
PEARL OF SICILY (NZ) - Was declared a late scratching at 3.17pm on veterinary advice after the filly sustained lacerations to the off hind leg after kicking out in the barriers.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on PEARL OF SICILY to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - SWANFELS – 1c win, 1c place.
2nd – HELLO DOLLY DIVA – 1c place.
3rd – MISHANI VISIONS – 1c place.
Trainer B Ahrens was advised that PEAR OF SICILY would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again and a warning would be placed on the filly for its barrier manners.
YEAH BUDDY - Near the 600m improved onto the heels of GRANDSTANDER.
BAD SANTA – Began awkwardly and slow away.
GRANDSTANDER- Trainer T. Pascoe was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
IN THE HOLE TIGER - Shortly after the start, was bumped heavily on the hindquarters and became momentarily unbalanced. Raced wide for the majority.
SICILIAN WARRIOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running for a short distance approaching the 200m before shifting wider to obtain clear running.
SWANFELS – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
NEWEVA – Bumped shortly after the start.
GITSHAM – Bumped shortly after the start.
MISHANI VISION - Raced wide for the majority.
GLOBAL CURRENCY- Shifted out on jumping bumping heavily with IN THE HOLE TIGER.
RACE 5: FRASERS LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1100 Metres
MEDALS - Raced wide for the majority.
JACKA STANDS ALONE – Blundered shortly after the start.
FLYING BIRDS –Leaving the 900m, was checked when ADALIE was carried inwards by MEDALS (ridden by L Tilley) shifted in marginally. L Tilley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.
SNITZOND - Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ADALIE – Began fairly.
RACE 6: THINK FENCING COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
KINGSLAND- On returning to scale, jockey J. Bayliss reported that he dropped his whip near the 100m.
JE REVE - Held up for clear running from the 250m until the 200m.
SWITCH TO GO - Over raced in the early and middle stages when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover.
TRISKELION (NZ) - Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously passing the 800m.
HEROIC BEACH - After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover.
LITTLE VAIN - Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 300 – 100m.
RACE 7: PSP VIDEO FILLIES & MARES RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
CEEKAY'S CHOICE - Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight before being corrected by the rider.
DRAGON SONG - Difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200m.
ELIZABASS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery.
HELIKEDEMPRETTY - Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 200m, became awkwardly placed on heels and was steadied.
DAITANNA - Raced wide for the majority.
MISS DE MEDICI – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
I’LLTELLYOUSO - Improved onto heels passing the 600m and had to be steadied.
ISLAND MAGIC - Blundered shortly after the start.
SWEET ANTHE – Eased down over the final 100m. When questioned, App O Webb stated that in her opinion her mount felt unusual in its action and elected to ease the mare down over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R Davidson was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for its poor performance.
MISHANI STELLER - Raced wide for the majority.
