Toowoomba 05/09/26:

Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 4 – VENTUROUS – P. Hamblin +0.5kg (56.5kg)

Two urine samples were taken from riders at today’s meeting.

Race 1 - NATHAN COSTELLO WTC THANKS YOU FOR 14 YRS MAIDEN PLATE 800M

HURRICANE HANK – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Goondiwindi on 5th September 2026. Slow to begin and was then slow to muster speed in the early stages. Leaving the 600m, checked from the heels of PHAT ROY (H. Saunders) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice H. Saunders pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing 600m, she made insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of HURRICANE HANK which had to be checked from the heels of PHAT ROY and became severely unbalanced. Apprentice Saunders’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 19th September 2026 and to expire midnight 30th September 2026. In accessing penalty, Stewards considered her guilty plea, excellent record (this being her first careless riding suspension) and the QRIC Careless riding template.

DEMES GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly and was inclined to lay out in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Hung out from the 600m until the entrance of the home straight. Trainer N. Hocking was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for its racing manners.

TEXAS COWGIRL – Held up for clear running from approaching the 400m until passing the 300m. Again, was held up approaching the 100m and as a result was unable to be fully tested to the finish line.

Race 2 - VON ROBERTSON WTC THANKS YOU FOR 10 YRS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 800M

Prior to correct weight, jockey D. McGillivray, rider of the 2nd placed CHAT MIGNON viewed the Stewards patrol footage of the concluding stages. After electing not to proceed with an objection, Stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.

RUNAROUND SUE – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 600m, hampered and taken in when crowded for room between SUTHERLAND and AETERNUM which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice J. Emmerson reported that after suffering interference at 600m, her mount with the big weight impost, failed to quicken as expected and was disappointing.

MR WANDJI – Slow to begin and bumped with I AM GONE.

SUTHERLAND – Leaving the 600m, checked when tightened for room inside RUNAROUND SUE, which was taken in by AETERNUM (C. Krahnen) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice C. Krahnen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that leaving the 600m, she made insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of RUNAROUND SUE, which was hampered and taken in onto SUTHERLAND, which was carried in and obliged to check when placed on the heels of EVER SO READY. Apprentice Krahnen’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight 19th September 2026 and to expire midnight 3rd October 2026. In accessing penalty, Stewards considered her guilty plea, record, that she made some effort to straighten her mount and the QRIC Careless riding template.

LOVELY GEM – Near the 800m, clipped the heels of CANDLE IN THE WIND, blundering and becoming unbalanced. Stewards inquired into the reasons why LOVELY GEM clipped heels near the 800m and took evidence from jockey M. Savva (LOVELY GEM), apprentice W. Galloway (ELNAJEED), assisted by senior rider B. El-Issa, and jockey B. Lerena (CANDLE IN THE WIND). It was established that near the 800m, LOVELY GEM was racing tight to the inside of CANDLE IN THE WIND and at this point, clipped the heels of that runner which had been taken in slightly by ELNAJEED which had shifted in quickly placing pressure on CANDLE IN THE WIND. Although ELNAJEED had shifted ground, Stewards considered the evidence from jockey M. Savva that her horse was racing greenly and changed stride, which she believes was the primary reason for her mount shifting out slightly and clipping heels. Nonetheless, even on the evidence provided, apprentice W. Galloway was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear and advised to be more mindful in shifting ground more gradually.

RITA'S ROSE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. Bumped and taken wider rounding the home turn when OLD WERMATONG shifted out.
