Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1100 Metres

On arrival at start the saddle of TIGER STRYKE was refitted resulting in the start being delayed.

CIMARRON KID – slow to begin

MASSIE WHISPER – taken in near 850m

TIGER STRYKE – Hampered and obliged to steady when taken in and tightened for room near 850m. When asked to comment on below market performance App H English stated TIGER STRYKE, despite being hampered early in the event, never travelled at any stage of the race and was most disappointing. Representative for trainer K Geran indicated connections would now consider retiring the mare. A post-race Vet examination of TIGER STRYKE revealed no abnormality.

WINDQUEST – raced wide for majority.

CLASSIC BEAU –checked at 850m. M Crawford, rider of CIMARRON KID pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 850m he permitted his mount to shift when riding along resulting in MASSIE WHISPER  (H Poland) being taken in onto TIGER STRYKE (app H English) which was hampered and in turn taken inwards resulting in CLASSIC BEAU (app T Williams) being checked and losing its position. M Crawford was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight days to commence midnight 20th October up to and including midnight 28th October.

Race 2: CLASS 2 PLATE: 1100 Metres

Declaration of correct weight was initially delayed when H Poland, rider of AVALANCE WARNING, viewed the race replay of the start. Correct weight was further delayed when H Poland viewed the official race footage over the final 50 metres of the event. After viewing both incidents correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.

BONDI BATTLE – when questioned over tactics adopted in the early and middle stages of the event, rider M Cox stated instructions were to make use of the inside draw and come to the outside of runners in the straight. She added after blundering shortly after the start she elected to settle and balance BONDI BATTLE in the early and middle stages which resulted in the gelding racing some distance off the second last horse for the majority of the event. Trainer J Hearne confirmed the instructions, however expressed disappointment in the ride, particularly the lack of vigour displayed by M Cox in early stages of the event. After considering all circumstances, in particular the fact that BONDI BATTLE had failed to perform at its only other start on a sand surface, Stewards took no direct action, however did advise M Cox her ride lacked initiative in not attempting to hold a more forward position in the early stages of the event.

SILK TOPPER – slow to begin.

AVALANCE WARNING – inconvenienced and taken wider on the track over concluding stages and passing the winning post hampered.

PARADISKI – shifted out under pressure over final 100 metres. Rider M Crawford was reprimanded under AR137(a) and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.

Race 3: CLASS B HDCP 850 Metres

ANGELS LOVE – Raced wide throughout

SOLGAZE – made heavy contact with enclosure gate when moving onto the track resulting in rider S Apthorpe being dislodged. On arrival behind the barriers SOLGAZE was inspected by the Club Vet and cleared to start.

ARENKHA – raced wide throughout.

Race 4: CLASS B HDCP 1465 Metres

PAST DARK – inconvenienced and taken wider rounding 1100 metre turn

ELUSIVE ELEMENTS – slow to begin.

RIVERINA GOLD – rider reported at scale, in her opinion, failed to handle the sand track.

MUDCRAB – inconvenienced and taken wider rounding 1100 metre turn then raced 3-wide for remainder of the event.

NEED A WARRANT – inconvenienced and taken wider rounding 1100 metre turn and then raced four-wide for remainder of the event.

STAR OF COLUMBIA – shifted out abruptly passing the winning post on the first occasion near the 1100m inconveniencing runners to the outside.

Race 5: OPEN CUP HDCP 1465 Metres

Permission was granted for CLOUDS, which raced in winkers at its most recent start at Bundaberg on 28th July, to carry that gear today. A public announcement to this effect was made.
PATCHE GIFT – raced 3-wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
YOU CAN’T BE – when asked to comment on apparent poor performance App T Williams stated the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout the race and on pulling up was making an abnormal respiratory noise. Representative for trainer B Johnson indicated YOU CAN’T BE had undergone a wind operation some time ago, however was successful on the sand track at Gympie 2 starts ago, and in her opinion, is a horse that races best when ridden more forward in its races. A post-race Vet examination revealed no significant abnormality. Stewards noted the explanation.
