GENERAL

As apprentice J. Metcalfe was absent from today’s meeting, she was replaced as per the raceday summary.

As rider R. Payne was unavailable, she was replaced as per the raceday summary.

Steward’s permitted apprentice rider R. O’Connell to claim only 1.3kg of his 2kg allowance in Race 1 as he was a late rider replacement for apprentice J. Metcalfe who did not attend the meeting and noting the scarcity of riders available at the meeting.

Race 1: PARKER'S PLUMBING & GASFIT OPEN Handicap (1100 METRES)

ABLETT – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HENRY’S BLADE – Blundered and dislodged its rider approaching the 300m. Upon veterinary examination it was revealed that the gelding had sustained a serious injury to its off-foreleg and was humanely euthanized. Samples were collected for analysis and the gelding was transported for post-mortem. Apprentice rider S. Bailey was assessed by QAS and cleared of any injury. Stewards, after viewing footage of the incident and noting the superficial injuries sustained to apprentice Bailey’s face, advised apprentice S. Bailey that she would incur a 12 day stand down as per the QRIC Concussion Protocol and would be required to obtain a medical certificate and complete a satisfactory cognitive test prior to next riding.

MAMARAGAN – Raced wide without cover throughout.

DIGGITY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide without cover throughout.

HARD LANDING – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Following the running of this race, Stewards inspected the surface of the track along with a delegate of senior riders. The inspection revealed inconsistencies with the track surface and after concerns were raised by the riding group, the decision was made to abandon the remainder of the meeting at 2:30pm.
