GENERAL
Due to technical issues, the photo finish camera failed to operate for the first three events. Extra personal were provided by the club for judging duties along with extra film and camera images being taken to also assist during this time.
Race 1: KEPPEL BAY SAILING CLUB QTIS 3YO MDN H’CAP – 1000M
NEVAEH – Slow To begin.
PEGUNNY KID – Slow to begin. Shifted out bumping heavily with another runner on a number of occasions leaving the 200m. Rider J. Stanley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Hampered near 100m.
MITCHY’S INSTINCT – Bumped heavily near the 200m on a number of occasions.
SAVANNAH ORO – Shifted out slightly near 100m hampering another runner.
ROCKY RIPPER – Raced greenly. Tailed field throughout. Trainer J. Pointon was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners and competitiveness. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Apprentice D.J Evans, the rider of CRAIGLEA CHAMP, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 700m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent that runner from shifting in when not sufficiently clear of PEGUNNY KID which had to be restrained, and continue to shift in tightening the running of CHILI CON CARNE which had to be checked and lose ground. D.J Evans licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of three (3) meetings to commence midnight 29 August 2015 and to expire midnight 10 September 2015.
Apprentice Evans was advised of his right of appeal.
Race 2: PATLAWS SECURITIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
FASTNET STORM – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.
RAILROAD BILL – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide.
DRAGON GOLD – Over-raced for as short distance shortly after the start. Restrained approaching the 1000m when over-racing to avoid the heels of FASTNET STORM which shifted in. Rider D. Evans was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.
AMAZZLER – Commenced to over-race leaving the 800m and checked from heels near the 700m.
LI’L BIT GREEDY – Hung out for short distance leaving 700m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to suffering heat stress, after receiving treatment LI’L BIT GREEDY recovered well. Trainer J. Wehlow, advised stewards it would now be his intention that the mare would now be sent for a spell and closely monitored in during the hotter seasons.
FORECASTING - Hung out for short distance leaving 700m.
KING KHAN – Hung out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 3: PLUG 1 ELECTRICAL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1800M
JUST FOR KEEPS – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Connections were advised a further barrier certificate must be obtained prior the gelding being permitted to race again.
WILD GODSON – Steadied shortly after the start to avoid heels.
HUNTER ISLAND – Raced wide leaving the 800m in an effort to improve. Rider A. Butler was afforded the opportunity to comment on the gelding’s performance, he stated that in his opinion HUNTER ISLAND did not appreciate the firmness of today’s track and may have jarred up. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild soreness across its chest. Trainer T. Button advised stewards it was now his intention the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell. Mr Button was nonetheless advised if he was to continue with its preparation he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.
MURRAMARANG – Raced wide leaving the 800m in an effort to improve.
WHAT’S YOUR SECRET – Over-raced in the middle stages of the race.
Race 4: PACIFIC HOTEL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M
CRAIGLEA WISE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BENJI – Slow to begin.
MONTANA HERO – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
GLACIER EXPRESS – Improved onto heels near 500m and steadied. Restrained near 300m to avoid the heels VICIOUS CHICK which shifted in slightly under pressure. Rider P. Romeo was reprimanded and advised to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by C. McIver, rider of second placegetter MISS HOFFA, against VICIOUS CHICK being declared first alleging interference over the concluding stages. After hearing all of the evidence and viewing of the official race film, it was established VICIOUS CHICK shifted in slightly over the concluding stages racing in close proximity of MISS HOFFA and slightly brushing close to the finish line. Given the level of interference and where the incident took place stewards could not be satisfied a reversal of placing’s could be justified and dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges’ semaphored numbers.
Race 5: NRG INDUSTRIAL QTIS (4 YO ONLY) CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1400M
The start was delayed slightly when INKJET SPRINTER after being examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the start was found to be lame in the off front knee and was declared a late scratching at 3.08pm. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on INKJET PRINTER were ordered to be refunded and the following deductions to applicable.
RACING HARADA – 10 cents in the dollar for the win, 12 cents in the dollar for the place.
ZARADA ANGEL – 14 cents in the dollar for the place.
MAMSELLE CORDAY – 9 cents in the dollar for the place.
TENNESEE WOMAN – Slow to begin.
WAR NOISE – Saddle shifted forward shortly after the start placing rider at distinct disadvantage and taking no competitive part in the race. Apprentice D.J Evans was dislodged passing the winning post. D. Evans was examined by the ambulance officers and was stood down for the remainder of the day and was advised he must provide a medical clearance before his next race ride.
RED BOHEMIA – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels near 700m and steadied.
RACEY MACEY – Bumped on jumping away.
MOONLIGHT MAGIC – Rider C. McIver reported that the gelding became very awkward in its action near the 1200m for no apparent reason and lost ground and was of the opinion the mare may have gone a miss and as such did not place the horse under any pressure for the remainder of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will contact trainer P. Pengelly in relation to this matter in the following days.
Race 6: G.J GARDNER HOMES YEPPOON CLUB OPEN H’CAP - 1400M
HARD LIQUOR – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over-raced early stages of race.
FERMENT – Tightened for room at the start.
BLAZE TO FORTUNE – Tightened for room at the start.
BESEECH – Disappointed for a run near 300m. Raced in restricted room for short distance near 50m.
MYTHOLOGIST – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
IOWNAPRINCE – Shifted wider leaving the 600m in an effort to improve.
Race 7: KEPPEL BAY SAILING CLUB BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP - 1200M
NOT SO SOBER – As apprentice D. Evans was indisposed he was replaced by apprentice M. Haley. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
STORMWOOD – Bumped at the start.
PRIMED FOR DESTINY – Bumped at the start. Inconvenienced near 300m and disappointed for a run in early part of straight. Steadied near 200m.
TESTATIME – Severely tightened for room on jumping away resulting in rider almost being dislodged. Difficulties obtaining clear running from 300m until 150m.
FROM THE DARKNESS – Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with another runner.
PRINCE DAN – Disappointed for a run and shifted in to obtain clear running near 300m inconveniencing another runner. Rider A. Butler was severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care. Shifted out near 200m hampering another runner. Advised to show more care. Shifted out under pressure concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a laceration to its off front fetlock and a deep laceration to its off hind leg. Trainer R. Vale was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to it being permitted to race again.
STRATEGIC GLORY – Shifted in leaving 600m placing runners in restricted room for a short distance. Rider S. Sheargold was severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care. Bumped near 150m. Shifted in slightly and steadied from heels near 50m.
EIGHT SKIRTS – Raced in restricted room for short distance near 600m.
PYGMY HUNTER – Raced in restricted room for short distance near 600m and steadied, then became unbalanced when over racing a short distance later. Difficulties obtaing clear running in home straight and steadied on a number of occasions.
