She may be small but Bliss doesn’t lack heart

She might be smaller in stature compared to plenty of her opponents, but Bossy Miss Bliss certainly does not lack heart.

And, that is why she is expected to be competitive in race five on the program over 510 metres at Rockhampton on Wednesday night.

With 12 victories from 51 starts, her Emerald-based trainer Christine Pollard said the chaser always tries her hardest.

“I’m proud of Bliss – she’s a railer and she’s had a lot of not suitable box draws,” Pollard said.

“If she’d have had the better box draws earlier in her life, she most probably would’ve won a few more races.

“She’s a very good race bitch. She can find some runs and look for gaps and work in and out.

“She always gives her best, Bliss. I’m proud of her.”

Pollard added Bossy Miss Bliss – who currently has $34,540 in career earnings – also possesses natural racing intelligence.

“We talk about potential in dogs. It’s always been innate in her. She’s always had that pretty much right from the start,” she said.

“A lot of dogs seem to have a pattern and a personality. She’s always had a calm personality.

“She has a go and tries hard. She pushes up hard and when she has those bad box draws, she won’t put herself in places she doesn’t want to be.”

Bossy Miss Bliss will start from box five in the six-dog field on Wednesday night and Pollard says Play Dirty – from box eight for Dallas Beckett – will be the dog to beat.

The fellow three-year-old has saluted in all five of his most recent starts.

In Bossy Miss Bliss’s last start, she fought gallantly to finish a length behind Play Dirty.

“There was no race for her last week, so she could be a bit underdone with a week without a hard gallop,” Pollard said.

“She gave it her best shot last time and they were even right before the line. And, he (Play Dirty) got her by whatever it was on the line.

“Play Dirty would be the dog to beat. He’s been going really well and he’s run some good times.

“She’s a good little bitch. Sometimes the bitches just can’t measure up against those better dogs.”

Bossy Miss Bliss is by the great Fernando Bale and out of Pollard’s broodbitch, Bossy Miss Bella, who saluted on 11 occasions from 46 starts.

“Interestingly enough that litter’s all been a good litter. I had a sensational year with them and Edgewood’s in that litter,” she said.

“Her mother had a sensational nature. They’ve got a great nature like their mother.

“They don’t burn energy and they can travel.

“I bred with that bitch particularly because she had a very good nature. And, this bitch has got a good nature as well. She’s very similar to her mum.”
