Courses

Training in Queensland is designed to help individuals gain the skills, qualifications and experience needed for employment, career development and participation in priority and emerging industries across the state. It is delivered through the vocational education and training (VET) system, including apprenticeships, traineeships and nationally recognised courses offered by approved training providers.

The Queensland Government supports training through a range of initiatives that may reduce or subsidise the cost of study, particularly in areas of skills need. These include programs such as Career Start and Career Boost, as well as subsidised apprenticeships, traineeships and other free or reduced-fee training opportunities. Many training pathways also allow individuals to earn while they learn, particularly through apprenticeship and traineeship arrangements aligned with industry requirements.

More information about vocational education and training is available on the Department of Trade, Employment and Training website.

Government funding for training in Queensland

Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s

If you are under 25 and completing a priority apprenticeship or traineeship, the Queensland Government may pay your training fees. This can mean your training is fully covered, depending on your eligibility and qualification area.

Career Start

Career Start helps students and job seekers complete a Certificate III qualification or apprenticeship at a lower cost. The government pays part of your course fees, and you pay a smaller co-contribution. This program helps you gain skills for entry-level jobs or career change opportunities.

Career Boost

Career Boost supports higher-level study, such as Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma qualifications, as well as selected skill sets. The government subsidises part of the course cost, and eligible students pay a reduced contribution. This program is designed to help you advance your career or move into higher-skilled roles.
