Bundaberg Straight track project

Racing at Bundaberg ceased in September 2024, after the racing surface was deemed unsuitable for ongoing racing.

Racing Queensland is progressing plans to redevelop the venue through the Racing Infrastructure Fund. Following market testing, significant cost and contractor challenges required the project scope to be reviewed, with updated designs and cost estimates obtained for alternative track configurations.

In June 2026, RQ hosted an industry forum in Bundaberg to provide a project update and hear directly from local participants and stakeholders.

The current proposal is for a straight track with a minimum length of 350m, including 300m and 350m starts. The Bundaberg Project Control Group, comprising RQ and invited Bundaberg representatives, is also investigating whether a longer straight track and additional starting distances can be delivered.

The Project Control Group will consider all aspects of the track and supporting infrastructure, including the lure system and access to and from the starting boxes. Industry consultation will continue as the project progresses.
