Stakes winner Dzsenifer faces early retirement to the breeding barn if she doesn’t live up to expectations in the Group 3 Pam O’Neill at Doomben on Saturday.

Dzsenifer – a Samantha Collett mount – is a $15 chance in the 1600 metre feature behind $3.10 favourite Street Gossip.

The rising six-year-old caught the eye with her last start sixth when she went down less than two lengths to the Richard Litt-trained Essonne in the Listed Silk Stocking at the Sunshine Coast on May 6.

Dzsenifer hasn’t won since claiming the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast last year and finished second in the Group 3 Winx Guineas, which was won by Our Playboy at the Sunshine Coast in 2021.

She also ran second in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast in July last year before finishing seventh to Tycoon Evie in last year’s Pam O’Neill.

“She hasn’t won since the Silk Stocking a year ago and if she doesn’t run as well as we hope then she could be retired,” Duncan said.

“We’ve had a couple of good offers for her but we’re still deciding whether to breed from her ourselves.

“My family own 40 per cent with four of my children each owning 10 per cent.”

Duncan said Dzsenifer had every chance in last month’s Silk Stocking on her home track and will appreciate a softer surface at Doomben following recent rain.

“She doesn’t like hard tracks any more and is more at home on softer tracks,” he said.

“She’s a chance in this race but she’s not as good as she once was.

“Her last run was very good and she wasn’t beaten far and her run just petered out near the line.

“We’re looking at retiring her soon and if she doesn’t win or run well then this could be her last run.”

Duncan also has booked Collett to partner stable mate Goldsborough in the Listed Chief De Beers over 1110 metres.

Goldsborough has drawn barrier four and is coming off a first-up run when he dead-heated with the Stuart Kendrick-trained La Amigo in the Bat Out Of Hell over 850 metres at the Sunshine Coast on May 6.

“He’s going well and his win in the Bat Out Of Hell was his first run since he finished fifth in the Magic Millions Sprint in January,” Duncan said.

“There are no big  plans with him. We’ll keep looking for suitable races and dodge the good ones during the carnival.”
