The Queensland Off-The-Track Program is proud to partner with Polocrosse Australia to create new pathways for retired racehorses in the sport of polocrosse. To be held at the Chinchilla Polocrosse Grounds, the 2024 Australian Polocrosse Nationals will host the Polocrosse Australia World Cup Display on Friday, June 28 as part of its competition schedule. The event will feature the Australian Polocrosse World Cup 2024 Team, who will each present a retired racehorse they have personally retrained to participate in a polocrosse demonstration to showcase the versatility and suitability of retired racehorses for the sport of polocrosse. “I think it’s a great venture and as a trainer myself, it’s something I’m excited to expose to the polocrosse community,” Polocrosse Australia President Mick Templeton said. “To think that an industry like the racing industry, with its significant national scale, which includes the state of Queensland, are keen to support this venture with Polocrosse Australia is exciting. “They’re committed to investing in the welfare of their horses and they trust us to help achieve that.” QOTT Board Chair Dr Christine Johnson said she is thrilled to partner with Polocrosse Australia to present the Polocrosse Australia World Cup Display. “This event will showcase the versatility and suitability of retired racehorses for the sport of polocrosse. To have the knowledge and expertise of the Australian Polocrosse World Cup 2024 Team retraining retired racehorses for future careers in polocrosse is very exciting,” Dr Johnson said. “Thoroughbreds are incredibly intelligent and athletic animals who adjust quickly to new pursuits. Polocrosse is just one of the many avenues they can pursue upon their retirement from the racetrack. “It will be fantastic to promote the work of the Queensland Off-The-Track Program to communities in regional areas of Queensland and we look forward to watching our former racehorses take centre stage at the Australian Polocrosse National Championships in June.” The QOTT Program was established in 2021 to provide a high-quality first transition for Thoroughbred and Standardbred horses from racing and breeding activities to retirement.
