Murwillumbah trainer David McColm has declared iron-horse Far Too Easy ready for a remarkable winning comeback after cheating death when racing resumes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Far Too Easy was on death’s door for several days after being struck down by a serious bout of colitis after his last campaign.

The setback came after he finished fourth at his last appearance in the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast in January.

The six-year-old makes his return in the Ladbrokes Blackbook Quality Handicap over 1000 metres which will be his warm-up for the $2 million The Kosciuszko at Randwick on Saturday week.

“He’s got a big weight with 61kgs on Saturday but he’s feeling good and has trialled well,” McColm said.

“I think he’ll win.”

Far Too Easy

Far Too Easy has won eight of his 20 starts and more than $1.3 million in prizemoney but it could easily be more.

The son of All Too Hard has had a roller-coaster career which included being caught in floodwaters prior to finishing fourth in the Country Championship at Randwick in 2022.

He later suffered a skin infection leading up to last year’s The Kosciuszko when third to Front Page while he banged his eye on a water walker and required six stitches which ruled him out of last year’s $1 million The Hunter in Newcastle.

However, the worst was to come when McColm feared he had lost him after a bout of colitis.

“For three days it was touch and go whether he’d survive,” McColm said.

“I was really concerned he wouldn’t make it for a while.

“When we found he had colitis we had to make a split decision whether to send him to hospital or treat him at home which required 24-7 treatment so we decided to treat him ourselves.

“It was full on but he’s a very tough horse.”

McColm is amazed at Far Too Easy’s recovery as he lost 70kgs at one stage.

“We had to stop feeding him because of his colitis and he couldn’t eat anything for three to four days.”

McColm has booked Kyle Wilson-Taylor to ride Far Too Easy in his comeback, but no rider is engaged for The Kosciuszko.

“We’re in talks with Craig Williams to ride him in Sydney but Kyle is still in the mix,” he said.

“He’s going super right now and has had two barrier trials and both were very good.”

McColm revealed Far Too Easy, who is a $7.00 second favourite for The Kosciuszko, will be aimed for the Queensland Summer Carnival after his Sydney mission.
