Daysea’s Rory claims Greyhound of the Year title

20 March 2026

Daysea’s Rory has capped off an outstanding 2025 season to be crowned the Queensland Greyhound of the Year at tonight’s awards ceremony at The W Brisbane.

Trained by Tom Tzouvelis, the superstar chaser continued to impress in 2025, notching 17 wins and eight placings from 38 starts – headlined by wins in the Group 3 Straight Of Origin and QGOLD Winter Sprint Final, and a new track record in the Group 2 Townsville Cup heats.

Additionally, the fawn dog also produced gallant efforts in the Group 1 Gold Bullion, and finals of the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase and Melbourne Cup.

In being crowned Greyhound of the Year, Daysea’s Rory defeated fellow finalists Autumn Storm and Blue Blend, both of whom enjoyed highly consistent 2025 seasons.

“The Crisafulli Government is proud to be backing the greyhound code in Queensland,” Racing Minister Tim Mander said.

“On the back of the first-ever Golden Greys at The Q over the summer, all eyes will soon shift to the famous Winter Carnival, headlined by the Group 1 Brisbane Cup.

“Congratulations to all of this evening’s winners as we look forward to another outstanding season for the greyhound code in 2026.”

It was a night to remember for Tzouvelis, who took home both the Capalaba and Q2 Parklands Trainer of the Year awards, while his black dog Secret Story was crowned top dog at Capalaba after his 14 wins and four placings from 18 starts at the venue.

The Claude Dacey-trained Daysea’s Chief was crowned the inaugural Q1 Lakeside Greyhound of the Year, with Riley Evans taking home the Q1 Lakeside Trainer of the Year award.

Q2 Parklands Greyhound of the Year was awarded to Red Dirt Road, while on the Q Straight, Jamie Hosking was named Trainer of the Year, with Greyhound of the Year being shared between Kalina Pearl and Noaki Uno.

Multiple Group-winning trainer Jemma Daley received the Women in Racing award for her success and contribution to racing in Queensland.

The Outstanding Contribution Award, which was introduced in 2019 to recognise the tireless efforts of volunteers within the industry, was bestowed upon Townsville club president Michael Fusco.

Trainer Ben Davey was awarded the Young Achiever Award for a season that amassed 19 wins and 17 placings from 67 starts for the 27-year-old.

“Daysea’s Rory’s status as one of the nation’s premier chasers was already well-known, and we are pleased to see his 2025 season rewarded with the Queensland Greyhound of the Year Award,” Acting RQ CEO Lachlan Murray said.

“We have already seen the code continue to go from strength-to-strength in the Sunshine State, with last year’s opening of The Q seeing the world-class facility continue to attract trainers and greyhounds from around the nation.

“With another hugely successful summer carnival just behind us, and another fantastic winter carnival on the horizon, there is no better time to be involved in the greyhound code in Queensland.”

Finally, long-term industry administrator, the late Chris Williams, and legendary chaser Dancing Gamble were announced as this year’s Hall of Fame inductees.

In total, Racing Queensland announced over 25 award winners at The W Brisbane, acknowledging the remarkable achievements of greyhound racing participants across the state throughout 2025.
