Golden Greys Summer Carnival set to light up The Q

22 October 2026

Australia’s greyhound racing elite will descend on The Q again this summer for the 2026/27 Golden Greys Summer Carnival.

With more than $2.3 million in stakes up for grabs, the Golden Greys will once again attract some of the nation’s premier chasers to the Sunshine State for seven feature race nights, headlined by the $375,000 Group 1 Gold Bullion.

In the lead up to Christmas, the Q1 Lakeside track will host eight QGOLD features to officially open the Summer Carnival on December 10, with the races exclusively for Queensland-bred greyhounds and more than $200,000 in stakes up for grabs.

The 2027 season will start with a bang on Q2 Parklands with the running of both the Group 2 Queensland Derby and the Bogie Leigh Futurity – both worth $112,500 – on January 7, followed one week later by the $150,000 Group 1 Golden Sands.

Acting Racing Queensland CEO Lachlan Murray said the Golden Greys continued to be one of the most anticipated carnivals on the Australian greyhound racing calendar.

“The Golden Greys Summer Racing Carnival has established itself as the must-race destination from December to February, and we are proud to once again welcome the nation’s best greyhounds, trainers and owners to The Q this summer,” Mr Murray said.

“With more than $2.3 million in prize money on offer across seven feature race nights, the carnival showcases the very best of our sport, from emerging young talent through to proven Group 1 champions.

“Headlined by our Group 1 events the Golden Sands and Gold Bullion, the carnival remains attractive to the nation’s best sprinters, middle distance types and stayers, with The Q providing the perfect stage to highlight world-class racing and entertainment for both participants and fans.”

The Group 2 Golden Ticket on January 21 will again act as the ideal lead-up to the Gold Bullion, with the winner receiving automatic entry into the $375,000 Final a fortnight later.

The heats of the $100,000 event will again be conducted as four-dog shootout heats, with two-dog match races in the Final to determine the winner by fastest time.

The Group 1 Gold Bullion on February 4 will take its place as the crowning jewel of the Golden Greys, with an honour board that includes champions of the sport like Sennachie, Jungle Deuce and last year’s winner, Canya Mayhem.

The Summer Carnival’s blockbuster finale evening will also feature the Group 1 $150,000 Gold Cup for stayers.

For the second time, Australia’s richest maiden greyhound race – the Group 3 Vince Curry Memorial – will take its place in the Summer Carnival’s headline meeting, with $112,500 up for grabs.

“There’s no better time of year to be at The Q,” Acting Queensland Greyhound Racing Club CEO Mick Edwards said.

“The Golden Greys bring the country’s best greyhounds, trainers and owners to Ipswich, and with seven feature nights on the program, our fans are in for some of the most competitive and exciting racing seen anywhere in Australia.”
