App M. Okada the rider of DESIRE TO WIN was fined the sum of $100.00 under the provisions of AR175(k) for negligently weighing out without a surcingle.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by D. Griffin the rider of SHIRAKI which finished fifth against LADY INNOCENT (L. Cheshire) being declared the fourth placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference in the home straight. It was established that leaving the 100m SHIRAKI was tightened for room and had to be checked by it’s rider when tightened between ELLE MAJESTY (P. Graham) and LADY INNOCENT, which shifted out. After considering the evidence presented stewards could not be satisfied to the desired standard that the incident warranted an amendment of the placings and correct weight was given on the numbers as semaphored.

At a subsequent enquiry L. Cheshire the rider of LADY INNOCENT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SHIRAKI, which resulted in SHIRAKI being tightened for room between LADY INNOCENT and ELLE MAJESTY and unable to improve. Craven stated that the instructions were to keep the horse to the outside however, was unable to do this when PROMONTORY (App B. Wallace) shifted to the outside on straightening. D. Craven said that in his opinion JUST A CLASSIC had a tendency to shift in resulting in his whip becoming entangled with App B. Looker (MEASURED), which was riding to its inside on a couple of occasions in the straight. When further questioned over the final 200m he stated he was unable to ride the horse out fully to the finish as BRIGADOON STAR had shifted out ahead of him thus preventing him from being able to improve.
