Race 1: SEASONAL BUFFET AT GCTC GALLERY RESTAURANT QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

GEMELLI – J. Taylor reported that it was not his intention to race on the speed today, however, the horse, with the addition of blinkers, overraced and subsequently failed to finish the race off as expected and was disappointing.

MAJAQUA – Had to be steadied for some distance approaching the 900m when awkwardly placed at the heels of ALLE VONGOLE. Apprentice J. Murphy, the rider of ALLE VONGOLE, was reprimanded for shifting in when not sufficiently clear. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

OUT FOR JUSTICE – Dropped its head as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ROYAL GEORGE – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 900m.

ALLE VONGOLE – Began awkwardly.

BALERION – Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace at the heels of MISHANI WEAPON approaching the 900m and shifted out abruptly, hampering EXPERT REPLY. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had sustained lacerations on both hind legs consistent with being galloped on and had cast the near hind plate in running.

EXPERT REPLY – Bumped heavily at the start. Had to be checked from the heels of BALERION approaching the 900m. Raced wide throughout.

FREEDOM FACTOR – Raced wide throughout.

MISHANI WEAPON – Steadied from the heels of ALLE VONGOLE leaving the 1000m when that runner shifted in forward of it.

Race 2: FASHION ON THE FIELD 5 MAY REGISTER ONLINE RATINGS BAND 0-65 H’CAP – 1650M

CASHINKO – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages.

HEAT SHIELD – V. Johnston was fined $300 for using the whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

IRISH VICE – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.

ANNIHILATION – L. Cheshire was questioned regarding her tactics. She stated that she was instructed to lead today’s small field and accordingly rode the gelding vigorously from the start. Jockey Cheshire added that she was able to ease the tempo between the 1300m and the 800m, however when IRISH VICE, which was caught three wide, attempted to press forward to obtain the lead, she urged the gelding forward in an attempt to hold that runner out. Ms Cheshire added that she had been specifically instructed not to get cover on the gelding as it has previously performed poorly when ridden in that manner and for this reason she was reluctant to allow IRISH VICE to cross forward to the lead leaving the 800m. After confirming the instructions with trainer K. Stabe, who was satisfied with the tactics adopted, stewards noted the explanation.

GLAMORGAN BABE – Hampered at the start. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice C. Gallagher stated that the mare commenced to weaken leaving the 600m and as he was concerned with its action he elected not to fully test the mare over the final 400m. Apprentice Gallagher was of the opinion that the mare failed to handle the step up from 1200m to 1650m today. Trainer G. Cornish noted that the mare was up in distance from its most recent start, which was first up from a spell. Mr Cornish stated that the mare is one-paced and more suited to races over further distances than that of today’s event and accordingly will continue with his current preparation. Whilst noting the explanation, stewards advised Mr Cornish that should the mare perform similarly at its next start, consideration will be given to placing an embargo on the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Race 3: XXXX GOLD COAST CUP RACEDAY 5 MAY CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1400M

JOHNNY BE QUICK – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Had to be checked from heels near the 1200m when the pace slowed and then continued to overrace for a considerable distance thereafter. Hung out rounding the home turn.

MY COUSIN RHETT – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which hung out throughout, revealed a poor post-race recovery.

CLOSE THE BOOK – Raced wide without cover throughout.

MY BLUE THUNDER – L. Dittman suffered a seemingly harmless fall after the race and fulfilled his remaining riding engagements.

WEAR THE FOX HAT – Slow to begin.

DANCING ON PARADE – Placed in restricted room to the inside of MEGASHOT rounding the home turn.

MEGASHOT – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and as a consequence raced wide throughout.

TELFORD – After arriving on course the gelding was kicked by another horse in the vicinity of the tie-up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to race. Raced wide throughout. Rider M. Gray reported that the horse hung out throughout the event and as a consequence the bit shifted leaving the 700m, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Race 5: GROUP 2 HOLLINDALE STAKES 5 MAY F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

DON’T PANIC – Hung out rounding the home turn.

SOLITARY ROSE – Had to be steadied leaving the 500m when tightened for room by DON’T PANIC, which laid in. Had to be steadied from heels near the 400m and was then held up rounding the home turn.

COMZALI – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, R. Plumb stated that he was instructed to lead but was unable to do so and he was obliged to race wide without cover throughout. He added that the horse commenced to weaken leaving the 400m and was disappointing. He indicated that the stable would look to step the horse up in distance and add blinkers at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

CHOICE OF FRIENDS – Raced wide throughout.

AVERNA MOUNTAIN – Raced wide throughout.

TAN TAT WISH – Held up approaching the home turn.

RODEO DESTINY – Slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn.

Race 6: CANARY BAR IN THE DOME 5 MAY CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M

TYRANNIZE – Hampered at the start. Bumped upon straightening.

SOFT TOP – Taken wider on the track rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics she adopted, jockey B. Ainsworth noted that the mare had previously settled towards the rear of the field after beginning only fairly. Ms Ainsworth stated that today the mare began better than anticipated and, mindful of its previous racing pattern, she allowed it to settle at the rear of the field. Ms Ainsworth agreed with stewards that after beginning better than anticipated she ought to have pressed forward initially to secure a position outside of ALLENA in the early stages.

ALLENA – Bumped TYRANNIZE when shifting out to improve upon straightening.

SHEZA HOTTI – Began awkwardly.

Race 7: HORSE 4 HARLEY – BAT OUT OF HELL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

Due to a clerical error R. Plumb was initially engaged to ride KEEN TIARA instead of S. Doyle. The error was identified shortly after jockey declarations were finalised and S. Doyle replaced R. Plumb as the rider of KEEN TIARA. As a consequence, S. Galloway replaced S. Doyle as the rider of ENLIGHTENED.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards reviewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether ALL GIFTS was afforded a fair start. It was established that ALL GIFTS reared as the start was effected, after which it became momentarily cast, almost dislodging jockey L. Dittman, and missing the start and losing significant ground, following which it failed to take any competitive part in the event. This incident was therefore the result of the barrier manners of ALL GIFTS and it was afforded every opportunity to start with the rest of the field. Stewards therefore declared the horse a runner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer A. Willick was advised that the gelding must compete in an official barrier trial prior to its next start.

UH OH – Raced wide without cover throughout.

KEEN TIARA – Raced wide throughout.

FLYPAST – Began awkwardly.

ENLIGHTENED – Slow to begin.

HOT CHOICE – Had to be steadied near the 800m when placed in restricted room between CLOSE ENOUGH and AMARYLISS, which shifted in. Lost the off fore plate in running. When questioned as to the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Smith stated that the filly did not appreciate the soft conditions at its last start. Mr Smith noted that its last start was 5 weeks ago as he had been forced to scratch the filly on a number of occasions to avoid wet tracks. Mr Smith added that the filly was also suited today by the drop back in distance to 1200m from a good barrier.

KATARINA – After arriving behind the barriers the horse underwent a veterinary examination due to being fractious in the preliminary and subsequently cleared to race.

Race 8: PINK RIBBON CUP 22 SEPTEMBER CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1400M

Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 for the late declaration of apprentice B. Nothdurft as the rider of COOCHIN BOY.

EVERY SINGLE ONE – Steadied approaching the 900m when tightened for room by DEFECTIVE, which shifted in. When shifting out to improve leaving the 300m, brushed the hind quarters of MILNE BAY, which shifted back in as a consequence. Placed in restricted room shortly thereafter and had to be steadied when ACADEMY HILL shifted out marginally.

ACADEMY HILL – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Bumped by COOCHIN BOY near the 400m.

AUERBACH – Began awkwardly and bumped BALABINA, and then a short distance later was hampered by BALABINA, which was taken in by another runner. Momentarily held up approaching the 300m.

YEPPOON – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and again over the concluding stages.

COOCHIN BOY – Shifted out marginally near the 400m, making heavy contact with the hind quarters of ACADEMY HILL and then became unbalanced and lost ground. Steadied rounding the home turn when placed in restricted room.

BALABINA – Bumped at the start. Hampered shortly after the start by MILNE BAY, which shifted in. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

MALCRIADO – Raced wide throughout.

TEMUJIN’S MOON – Steadied away from heels near the 900m. Raced wide throughout.

VOANABA – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice T. Williams was questioned regarding her riding rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Apprentice Williams stated that she was instructed not to apply the whip on the mare as two starts ago she rode the mare in a similar fashion when it was successful at Warwick. Trainer G. Cornish confirmed that the mare resents the use of the whip and added that it was his intention that it would settle in a forward position today and that he will issue similar instructions going forward.

Apprentice T. Williams sustained an injury in the process of unsaddling VOANABA after the race when VOANABA trod on her right foot. Ms Williams was assessed by the ambulance officers and advised to seek further medical attention. Stewards advised her that she will require a medical clearance before riding again.
