GENERAL
Stewards inspected the track at 6am with club officials and deemed the track suitable to race.
 
Trainers M Dunn and B Robinson were reprimanded under LR36(6) for failing to withdraw their dual acceptors by the prescribed time.
 
Race 1: AQUIS FARM BM58 Handicap 1400 metres
 
BRONZED VENOM – Near the 1000m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room. Near the 100m was momentarily inconvenienced when THE BIG EATER, shifted out to improve.  
 
THE BIG EATER – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 250m.
 
WICKMO – Dislodged rider G Colless enroute to the barriers and was quickly re-captured. G Colless advised that he was fit to fulfill his engagement. The mare underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to the near hind bumper.
 
THE KNIGHT - Began awkwardly and shifted out. Tactics queried. Rider R Palmer advised that it was intention to lead however after beginning awkwardly, her mount failed to muster sufficient speed in the early stages which result in her racing in a rearward position.
 
DUBLE GAZE – Slow to begin and shortly after was inconvenienced.  
 
LITTLE NATURAL – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout.
 
After the running of Race 1 rider G Colless was examined by QAS officers after complaining of right shoulder pain. G Colless was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagements and was advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to his next race ride.
 
Race 2: DARLEEN DURYEA BM58 Handicap 1400 metres
 
MIGHTY MOOSE – Apprentice J Cornish was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out to the finishing line.
 
CHEERS TO ALL – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Tactics queried. Jockey M Bennett advised that his instructions were to settle where comfortable. He added that he anticipated there being no speed in the race however when runners showed speed, he settled further back than anticipated. He added that he was always asking for the gelding to travel throughout the event and had to place further vigour in the early stages to get the gelding to respond. When questioned regarding whether there was an opportunity to show more urgency to trail OUR ROCKY into the race, M Bennett advised that he felt his mount was not travelling well enough to improve into the race at that point. He further added that he was mindful of the manners of OUR ROCKY, which he advised were a factor in not showing as much urgency to trail that runner into the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
GREY NOISE – Bumped on jumping.
 
CHEVRONS'N'ROCKERS – Performed below market expectations. Jockey G Walters advised that he gelding struggled to handle to heavy track conditions today.
 
BIGGIE – Held up in the early part of the home straight. Near the 100m had to shift in to obtain clear running. Tactics rounding the home turn and in home straight queried. When questioned regarding whether he was able to improve to the outside of the heels of CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS rather than persisting for a run to the inside of that runners’ heels, rider J Murphy advised that initially he intended to improve to the outside however he had concerns with how well the gelding was travelling that point, so he elected to persist with a run to the inside. He further added in highsight he should have made more of an effort to improve to the outside of heels of CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS which would have afforded him clear and uninterrupted running, rather than being held up for a distance. Stewards noted the explanation.

IRISH ACE – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping GREY NOISE.
 
OUR ROCKY – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
 
LOVESPEED GIRL – Rider G Goomany advised that in his opinion the mare failed to handle the heavy track conditions today.
 
Race 3: AQUIS FARM Class 4 Plate 1300 metres
 
BUSHIDO – Began very awkwardly, knuckled and shifted out abruptly, dislodging rider A Fancourt. A Fancourt was subsequently stood down from riding for the remainder of the meeting and transported to hospital for further observation. A Fancourt will be advised that a medical clearance will be required prior to riding again.
 
BUZZER BEATER – Commenced to weaken from the 600m before being eased down by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the to have bled both from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer M Boland was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 
MONTEZ – Crowded over the concluding stages by a riderless horse.
 
DIVINE DECADENCE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
WICKMO - Declared a late scratching at 7:38am by order of stewards.
 
Race 4: TAB Maiden Handicap 2450 metres
 
CAPTAIN RIDDLE – Bumped on jumping. Rider G Cartwright advised that the gelding hung out throughout.
 
SHORTAZ – Performed below market expectations. Apprentice N Fazackerley advised that in his opinion failed to handle the heavy track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost a near hind plate.
 
DUSTINS – Near the 1800m made an awkward stride and blundered. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Commenced to weaken from the 1000m and finished a distance last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be poor to recover. Trainer M Boland was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding. In assessing to only issue a warning, stewards were mindful of the track conditions.
 
FORCE ME – Apprentice J Lloyd was fined $100 for negligence under AR227(a) in that he sent out the incorrect saddle cloth with his saddle. Tactics queried. Apprentice J Lloyd advised that his instructions were to be on the pace however when other runners showed speed, he was content racing further back than intended. However, apprentice J Lloyd conceded with Stewards that in hindsight it may have been more beneficial to hold the forward position in the early stages, rather than allow his mount to get as far back in the early stages.
 
STAR QUEST – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 5: TAB QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
MISHANI TULIP – Overraced in the middle stages. Held up over the concluding stages.
 
AIR FORCE ACE – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping with WINTER VIOLET. Rider G Goomany reported that he intended to be forward however after being awkwardly away, he settled further back than intended. Near the 400m raced in restricted room. Rounding the home turn was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of AIR FORCE ROCKET (B Ainsworth), which shifted out when not clear. B Ainsworth was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
AIR FORCE ROCKET – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
WINTER VIOLET – Bumped heavily on jumping by AIR FORCE ACE. Near the 900m was inconvenienced when AIR FORCE ACE laid out.
 
PRETTY SMILES – Tactics queried – led. Rider C Jokic advised that it had always been the intention to lead however at its previous two starts it raced on unsuitable racing surfaces resulting in the filly being further back than intended.
 
Race 6: DUBIOUS AT AQUIS Class 1 Plate 1650 metres
 
ARISE MY SON – Began awkwardly and shortly after was hampered. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
FRONT PAGE NEWS – Performance queried. Rider A Chau advised that his mount travelled well throughout but when placed under pressure was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost both hind plates.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – Bumped shortly after jumping. Apprentice M Castle pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that she failed to ride her horse out to the end of the race. Apprentice M Castle was fined $400. In assessing penalty, stewards were satisfied that her inaction cost her mount fourth place.
 
BIEN CUIT – Rider G Cartwright reported that in her opinion the mare wasn’t suited by the month between runs, the step up in distance and the heavy track conditions.
 
MADAME GRACE – Reared as the start was affected and lost ground. Trainer T Dougall was advised that a warning will be placed on the record of the gelding. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
SLIGHTLY SHADY – Tactics queried – led. Apprentice O Webb advised that she was instructed to have her mount race in a handy position if possible, due to the barrier draw, the heavy track and as the mare was up in distance. Trainer K Brewster concurred with instructions given to Apprentice Webb and was reminded of her obligations to notify stewards of any change of tactics.
 
JELLISHOT – Near the 1400m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels.
 
Race 7: AQUIS FARM BM65 Handicap 1100 metres
 
KRAKATOA ERUPTION – Resaddled at the start.
 
MISSIE ARCHER – Prior to the declaration of correct weights stewards considered an application lodged by Apprentice J Cornish that the mare was denied a fair start. After considering the evidence it was determined that as the start was affected MISSIE ARCHER was being held by a barrier attendant and as a result lost ground. Acting under the provisions of AR204(1)(c) stewards determined that the mare was denied a fair start and as such declared it a non-runner. Stewards further ordered that all bets on MISSIE ARCHER be refunded with the following deductions to apply:-
 
8 cents in the dollar for the Win #1 (KRAKATOA ERUPTION)
9 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #1 (KRAKATOA ERUPTION)
9 cents in the dollar the 2nd place #14 (CHIEF MONDO)
7 Cents in the dollar the 3rd place #3 (MR. CASHMAN)
 
MICK THE HAT – Trainer M Palmer was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of apprentice M Castle as the rider of the gelding.
 
FRENCH OCEAN - Buffeted on jumping.
 
POETIC CHOICE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
CHIEF MONDO – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BRIEF SOJOURN – Declared a late scratching at 7:38am by order of stewards.
 
Race 8: TAB BEAUDESERT CUP OPEN Handicap 1650 metres
 
GLEN ORD – Tactics queried. Jockey A Chau advised that it wasn’t his intention to settle in a rearward position but rather in a more forward position with cover. However, when several runners to his outside showed pace, he was unable to hold his position and settled further back. He further added that he was satisfied in the geldings finishing efforts.
 
KING TOMLOLA – Declared a late scratching at 2:50pm after the gelding was found to be sore in the off fore. Trainer L Gore was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
PRINCESS CAVALLO – Over the concluding stages shifted in whilst under riding.
 
ATOMIC BOMB – Near the 100m was taken in by PRINCESS CAVALLO and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LEXINGTON LAD, which also shifted out under riding. Apprentice O Webb (LEXINGTON LAD) and B Ainsworth (PRINCESS CAVALLO) were advised to exercise more care.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
LEXINGTON LAD - Began awkwardly.
 
JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced wide in the early stages before its rider elected to go forward and obtain a position outside leader near the 900m.
 
 
Race 9: LEAN MEAN MACHINE AT AQUIS Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
KINGSFORD'S OWN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after dislodging rider R Palmer in the preliminary and was passed suitable to start. Jockey R Palmer advised that she was fit to fulfill her engagement. Near the 1000m blundered in the going. Approaching the winning post shied and shifted out abruptly. Trainer M Dunn was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding in regards to its racing manners.
 
BUSTED KUSTED – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting another runner in the preliminary and was passed suitable to start. Tactics queried – led. Jockey A Chau advised that it was his intention to obtain a midfield position however after being marginally slow to begin, he urged his mount along and ended up racing in a wide position. He further added than rather be caught wide and without cover throughout he elected to go forward and obtain the lead. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
AUTUMN HOUSE – As the start was affected turned its head over the barrier petition resulting in in it being very slow to begin. Trainer B Robinson was advised a warning would be placed on the filly.
 
Race 10: TAB Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
BALTIC CAVALIER – Eased down from the 500m. Jockey T Gray advised that the gelding failed to handle the heavy track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer A Plumb was advised that giving consideration to the performance on the heavy track today, stewards would expect that the gelding would not start on a heavy track in the future.  
 
JIMMY NEUTRON – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
 
QUEEN LUWELL – Raced wide and without cover throughout. Approaching the 150m hung in requiring apprentice J Lloyd to stop and straighten his mount.
