Race 1: MICHAEL & VAL KELLY LIGHTNING OPEN H’CAP – 800M

PRIME TARGET – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg for which it was treated by the on course veterinary surgeon. The trainer’s representative for Mr. G. Richardson was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.

MUSIC SCENE – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 600m.

ZOUZOUKAKIA – Bled from both nostrils. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.

Race 2: HENRY (DOC) SMILES BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 2000M

Upon arriving at the barriers UNIQUE MISTIQUE was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

DAZZLE EM SID – After being crossed early, the gelding then commenced to race keenly for some distance.

ROCKING OSSIE – Raced ungenerously with its head in the air in the early stages. Due to the slow tempo, jockey Beau Appo permitted his mount to stride forward to obtain a leading position near the 1400m and, as a result, settled further forward in the field than anticipated.

MEATBALL – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air on jumping and, as a result, its rider was struck in the face and the gelding lost valuable ground. Dipped on a number of occasions between the 600m and the 400m.

Race 3: GLORIA HOSKINS MEMORIAL/G J GARDNER HOMES QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1100M

PAPA JO – Hung out during the middle stages.

HEART OF KINGS – Began awkwardly.

CAUGHT REDHANDED – Began awkwardly.

Race 4: SUSAN JACOBS PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS 4 PLATE – 1200M

I’M FAVULOUS – Began awkwardly, and was then tightened for room and lost ground.

SMOOTH HUSTLER – Hung out rounding the home turn.

SOLTINHO LAD – Steadied from heels for some distance passing the 900m.

STELLA’S DREAM – Began awkwardly. Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 5: RACE COURSE STAR CAFE/SERVO MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

The start of this race was delayed when GOLDEN SYMPHONY proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted R. Goltz, the rider of 3rd placegetter CLEAR SAILING, to view the Stewards' patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection. After viewing the film, jockey Goltz indicated that he did not wish to proceed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

BENZ EXPRESS – Hung out rounding the turn near the 600m. Trainer C. Allardyce could offer no explanation for the gelding’s seemingly improved performance other than that, in her opinion, the standard of this race was inferior to that in which the gelding has competed at its three previous career starts.

C’MOME PADDYREILLY – Bumped heavily on jumping away. Overraced in the early stages and was steadied to avoid heels passing the 1000m.

THELLYSON – Hampered at the start. Clipped heels and blundered whilst racing keenly approaching the 900m.

GOLDEN SYMPHONY – Buffeted between runners on jumping away and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated.

CLEAR SAILING – Slow to begin. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight, and was buffeted between runners passing the 200m.

PIN DE LADY – Jumped out at the start making contact with another runner. Had difficulty securing clear running for some distance in the home straight. Steadied from the heels of TABARD (App. S. Sweeney) after passing the winning post when that runner shifted out when not completely clear. Apprentice S. Sweeney was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

SAVVY HUSSLER – Began awkwardly.

Race 6: DAVID & PAUL WINTER DALBY NEWMARKET OPEN H’CAP – 1200M

PUBLISHING POWER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

REWARD FOR FASHION – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

ROSIE POSIE – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground. Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn, and again near the 50m.

Race 7: DALBY FLORIST BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1400M

After becoming fractious in the barriers BEACH DRUM was declared a late scratching at 4.43pm. All monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

9 cents in the dollar for the Win #9
17 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9
6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
12 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7

The trainer’s representative for Mr. M. Kropp was advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance and must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing.

HANOVER SQUARE – Due to the slow tempo, Apprentice H. Phillips permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain the leading position passing the 1000m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.

PARIS CRYSTAL – Raced wide without cover throughout.

HIGHTOWER – When questioned by Stewards questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer’s representative M. Jeynes advised that the gelding was fourth up from a spell today and was therefore at is optimum fitness. He added that the stable had also increased the gelding’s volume of trackwork which he felt was also a contributing factor to the horse’s improved performance today. Stewards noted the explanation.

SOLO ARTIST – Jockey Beau Appo reported that, in his opinion, the mare was not suited to today’s firm racing surface and was reluctant to stretch out over the concluding stages.
