NOOGOORA BURR (R. McMahon) and GUNDY SON (R. Ride) were slow to begin.

For some distance after the 1000m COMMANDARE (H. Bowman) commenced to overrace badly and when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ZOOMANIA near the 900m, it shifted in, making heavy contact with NOOGOORA BURR.

BILLY AUCASH (R. Wiggins) raced extremely wide without cover.

After passing the 600m TOUGH TAIMZ (P. Holmes), which had raced three wide without cover, commenced to give ground. SALUTER (A. Allen), which was following, was badly inconvenienced and carried back through the field for a short distance.

Over the concluding stages COMMANDARE had to steady to avoid the heels of GUNDY SON, which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice R. Ride (GUNDY SON) was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.

The veterinary surgeon reported that COMMANDARE had been galloped on on the off hind leg. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary certificate for COMMANDARE prior to its next start.

Race 2: NU TURF QUEENSLAND DAY - 1200m

On the way to the barriers the pony leading ROUGH COPY kicked out, resulting in ROUGH COPY propping and dislodging G. Boss.

Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $200 for the late declaration of L. Cassidy as the rider of CASINO EXPRESS.

CASINO EXPRESS (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.

SNITZEL’S JEWEL (K. McEvoy) raced wide without cover.

After the 700m SHILLACKING (R. Wiggins) was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of EASTERN PRINCE (N. Rawiller).

From the 600m CASINO EXPRESS hung out badly and shifted out away from ARCHITECT (A. Spinks).

Near the 300m SCHILLACKING was steadied when crowded for room between WHISKEY ALLROUND, which was weakening, and EASTERN PRINCE, which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly.

ARCHITECT hung in under pressure.

Near the 250m SIEGFRIED (M. Rodd) shifted in, momentarily inconveniencing ROUGH COPY (G. Boss). Following this ROUGH COPY was held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of TULLA TOUCH (J. Byrne) for a short distance.

Approaching the winning post R. Wiggins (SCHILLACKING) had to stop riding when taken in by ARCHITECT.

Ms T. Harrison was questioned regarding her tactics on WHISKEY ALLROUND in the early stages. She stated that the gelding began very well so she elected to push forward, but after leaving the 900m FLAMBOYER (M. Cahill), which was racing to her inside, was also racing keenly and therefore she attempted to restrain WHISKEY ALLROUND but was unable to do so. She added that in her opinion the blinkers on the gelding for the first time played a part in the way the horse raced and it was inclined to hang out once she endeavoured to restrain the gelding.

G. Boss, the rider of ROUGH COPY, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right to the finishing line.

Race 3: SITA AUSTRALIA CHIEF DE BEERS H’CAP - 1110m

PURE PURRFECTION (J. Byrne) was immediately steadied at the start from its wide draw.

Making the first turn N. Seymour steadied BIG BONANZA to allow CAPE KIDNAPPERS (D. Browne) to cross and when it did so, IONA FAST ONE (P. Holmes), which was following BIG BONANZA and overracing, had to be steadied.

TAHITIAN BLACK (T. Bell) raced wide without cover.

On straightening, PURE PURRFECTION was held up behind MR FAVULOUS (T. Harrison) and TAHITIAN BLACK, and consequently was shifted in to find clear running.

Inside the final 100m IONA FAST ONE shifted out and was steadied off the heels of SHE CAN SKATE (J. Taylor).

When questioned, N. Seymour (BIG BONANZA) stated that the gelding was inclined to overrace in the early stages and did not respond to his riding in the straight. He added that BIG BONANZA would derive a fitness benefit from today’s start and said that in his opinion the gelding may be better suited on bigger tracks.

Race 4: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES LORD MAYOR’S CUP - 1615m

After being boxed GREY ASSIGNMENT (L. Cassidy) became fractious and got its hind leg up. The gelding was removed from its stall and examined by the veterinary surgeon who found that it had sustained lacerations to the near hind leg. GREY ASSIGNMENT was declared a late scratching at 1.21 pm on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GREY ASSIGNMENT be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

3 cents in the dollar for the Win #10
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #10
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #13
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #11

When the gates were released FLYING HOME (T. Harrison) stood very flat-footed and lost considerable ground.

BRAYROAN (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

M. Cahill was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on CARMORA. He stated that the trainer was of the view that the horse races best when racing up alongside other runners. He added that he rode the gelding similarly when it won at Eagle Farm on 26 April, however on that occasion it travelled better than it did today.

V. Colgan stated that HISTORIAN raced flat today and was under pressure prior to the home turn. He added that it would take benefit from the run and would be better suited on a bigger track. A post-race veterinary examination of HISTORIAN revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: GLENLOGAN PARK STAKES - 1350m

After being boxed, KENTUCKY WOMAN became fractious and reared high, resulting in C. Munce being dislodged. After being examined, both horse and rider were cleared to take part in the race.

ENDLESS SHADOW (T. Harrison) and CHINTZ (N. Rawiller) overraced in the early and middle stages.

For a short distance after straightening JAZZ SONG (D. Oliver) was held up for clear running until near the 250m.

Race 6: MITAVITE BRC SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES - 1350m

BRAZEN BEAU (N. Rawiller) began awkwardly.

On jumping, LOOKS LIKE THE CAT (D. Browne) was crowded between SARISARA (T. Bell) and STROAK (M. Cahill), which shifted in.

STROAK raced three wide without cover.

Inside the 200m SAGATONA (G. Colless) had to alter course to the inside to avoid the heels of HAVEN ANGEL (T. Harrison), which shifted out.

Inside the 100m SAGATONA shifted out and made contact with the tiring HAVEN ANGEL.

When questioned regarding the performance of PRESSING, D. Oliver stated that this was the first time the colt has raced in the clockwise direction and he was not overly disappointed with the performance, adding that it may take benefit with the addition of blinkers and being stepped up over further distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination of PRESSING failed to reveal any abnormalities.

J. Taylor reported that AIMEE never travelled well and was under heavy pressure prior tothe home turn and failed to respond to his riding. He indicated that connections will now send the filly for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of AIMEE revealed no significant findings.

Race 7: MULLINS LAWYERS GRAND PRIX STAKES - 2200m

On return to scale stewards withheld correct weight as they were of the view that grounds may have existed for a protest to be lodged on behalf of the connections of PINSTRIPE LANE (D. Oliver), which finished 3rd, against RUDY (H. Bowman) being declared 2nd placegetter. A protest was formally lodged by the Chairman of Stewards who was of the view that near the 250m RUDY had shifted out, resulting in PINSTRIPE LANE, which was racing to its outside, being inconvenienced and shifted wider. After giving evidence, the Chairman of Stewards then withdrew from deliberations. After taking evidence from the parties involved and reviewing all the available footage, stewards were of the view that approaching the 250m PINSTRIPE LANE had established running to the outside of RUDY and was then inconvenienced near the 200m when RUDY shifted out, resulting in PINSTRIPE LANE having to be shifted wider to find clear running. Bearing in mind the nose margin between the two horses at the finish, stewards were of the view that the protest ought be upheld and correct weight declared on the amended placings of: 1, 6, 2 and 4.

Connections advised that ROCK SCENT (M. Cahill), which has been ridden in a rearward position in its races, would be ridden in a forward position today from the wide barrier if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

After being boxed, PINSTRIPE LANE (D. Oliver) broke through the front of its gates and was quickly restrained, returned to the start, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

ROCK SCENT began very awkwardly.

AUBERGE (K. McEvoy) was slow to muster speed.

Approaching the post on the first occasion METEOROLOGIST (J. Byrne), which was racing keenly, was steadied away from the heels of TELEPATHIC (M. Du Plessis).

TELEPATHIC raced three wide for the majority of the event.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight both RUDY and PINSTRIPE LANE were held up.

KNOYDART hung in under pressure in the straight.

Near the 300m, SPIRIT OF BOOM (M. Rodd) shifted out, taking DRIEFONTEIN (N. Rawiller) out on to CONSERVATORIUM, resulting in FAMOUS SEAMUS, which was attempting to take a narrow run between CONSERVATORIUM and PERON (T. Bell), having to be checked. As stewards were not fully satisfied that FAMOUS SEAMUS had obtained the run, M. Rodd was issued with a severe reprimand.

After leaving the 200m FAMOUS SEAMUS again was hampered when tightened for room between PERON and CONSERVATORIUM, which shifted out slightly whilst weakening.

FAMOUS SEAMUS lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 9: CHANNEL SEVEN PREMIER’S CUP - 2200m

As C. Munce had been stood down for medical reasons, T. Harrison was substituted as the rider of TRAJET.

After being boxed, HEARTFELT QUEST (K. McEvoy) became very fractious, reared high in the gates and was momentarily cast. HEARTFELT QUEST was removed from its stall, examined by the veterinary surgeon and deemed suitable to race.

In the early stages VESPER (E. Wilkinson) overraced.

TRAJET (T. Harrison) raced wide throughout until crossing to race outside the lead at the 900m.

PRETTY PINS (R. Wiggins), LAUREN TATE (J. Taylor) and PRECEDENCE (G. Colless) were held up rounding the home turn.

At the entrance to the straight LAUREN TATE was tightened for room between TRAJET and ZENNISTA (M. Du Plessis), both of which shifted ground.
