Race 1: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1050 metres
 
SHAMROCK LU – Momentarily inconvenienced near the 300m when tightened for running room by CARRIBEAN KING when that runner hung in. Over the final 50m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of HOLD ON HONEY which was carried out by SITUATION ROOM. Apprentice A. Jones, rider of SITUATION ROOM, was advised of her obligations to stop and straighten her mounts when shifting ground in future.
 
ZUMA CALIFORNIA – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after being fractious when unloaded from the float, and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly, contacting the outside barrier partition and lost ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Near the 300m, hampered and carried wider when inconvenienced by HIDDEN EYES, which shifted out to improve.
 
HIDDEN EYES – Held up for clear running on entering home straight. Near the 300m, attempted to shift out to improve but again disappointed for a run, and held up until passing the 150m, after shifting in to improve. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey A. Thompson stated that he was mindful of GEMELON BOLT on entering the home straight was shifting around, and as such he elected to shift out around the heels of CRACKER ESSGEE to try to improve into clear running. He added that after shifting out he was immediately disappointed for a run to the outside of that horse after ZUMA CALIFORNIA improved to his outside. He further added that his mount was held up until passing the 150m but was able to shift into the position which he originally had on entering the home straight. Stewards advised Mr Thompson that he should have been more mindful of his surroundings when electing to shift into a doubtful run.
 
HOLD ON HONEY – Over raced during the early stages and restrained off the heels of GEMELON BOLT near the 500m.
 
PRINCESS BOJACK – Raced wide throughout.
 
SITUATION ROOM – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RUBY JULY –Slow to begin. Approaching the 300m, was disappointed for a run and had to be restrained off heels.
 
PUTONTHEREDLIGHT – Held up for clear running on entering home straight until passing the 200m.
 
NASHIRA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover throughout. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that it was his intention to settle further forward, however, after beginning awkwardly he had to settle at the rear of the field with cover. He also added that it was difficult with the genuine tempo of the race to make ground over the concluding stages. Returned to scale with blood in its mouth.
 
CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2: MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST PLATE 2000 metres
 
FAST TALKING – Began awkwardly.
 
BARADE (FR) – Stood flatfooted and missed the start. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of the gelding.
 
MUBARIZ (GB) – Began awkwardly.
 
NAVAJO PEAK – Over raced in the early stages.
 
SOUTHERN STOCK (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 3: JIM ROBERTS 35 YEARS OF SERVICE Class 6 Handicap 1600 metres
 
Following running of race 2, track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
BOTTEGA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide during the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WREN'S DAY (USA) – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running from the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
NO GOING BACK – Fractious in the barrier and underwent a pre race veterinary inspection and cleared to start. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice Graham stated she was instructed to lead or race in a forward position or if pressured to take up a position behind the leaders. Passing the 1400m, jockey J. Byrne improved to her outside, and at that point she attempted to restrain NO GOING BACK, however her mount commenced to over race. She added that she was able to restrain a mount and take up a position behind the leaders near the 1000m. Stewards noted Ms Graham’s explanation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of heat stress and moderate dehydration.
 
ROSE OF DUPORTH – Passing the 1000m, whilst over racing, restrained off the heels of BOLD HALO.
 
THE CULLINAN – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: PAT WELSH Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
ALLUSIONIST – Near the 150m, was momentarily inconvenienced by BUYING TIME, which laid in under pressure in the home straight.  
 
BUYING TIME – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DOMINARCHER – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SMASHINGPLATES – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight, and obliged to alter course near the 150m.
 
STORMY ROCK – Obliged to shift wider on entering the home straight to obtain clear running.
 
NIPOTINO – Apprentice A. Jones stated hung out before the turn and in the home straight and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of heat stress.
 
BRONZE DRAGON – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 5: AQUIS STALLIONS THE GOLD JEWEL 1350 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of fourth placegetter ROMAN AUREUS to view the patrol footage over the concluding stages.  
 
MASTER JAMIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
STAMPE – Jockey J. Huxtable was fined $300 under AR132(6)(b) for raising his whip hand above shoulder height.
 
LAST CHANCE – Slow to begin.
 
ROMAN AUREUS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering home straight until the 200m, then improved into a narrow run to the inside of MASTER JAMIE. Then raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 150m.
 
JETTY – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
DR WHY NOT – Passing the 1200m, had to be steadied off heels.
 
PENTITO – Jockey T. Marshall was reprimanded under AR132(6)(b) for raising his whip hand above shoulder height.
 
 
Race 6: EUREKA STUD MILITARY ROSE PLATE 1110 metres
 
ISOTOPE – When questioned regarding ISOTOPE leading in today’s event, trainer’s representative for the T. Gollan stable, Mr C. Cavanough stated that instructions were consistent with the mare’s previous three starts interstate, in that the mare is to be ridden positive either outside the leader or a pair back. Previously the mare was slow to begin and settled further back than anticipated. Stewards noted Mr Cavanough’s comments. A post race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress.
 
WINSIDE – Laid out under pressure in the early part of home straight. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
MAJESTIC SHOT – Slow to begin.
 
SWEET MARGOT MAY – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
MABEL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MOTOMISS – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
XTRA GEAR – Jumped away awkwardly, shifting out abruptly, bumping SWEET MARGOT MAY.
 
DELYTH – Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted SWEET MARGOT MAY. Raced wide and hung out throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow post race recovery.
 
COMPASSIONATE – Began awkwardly. Bumped on entering home straight by MAJESTIC SHOT which shifted out to improve.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING QTIS JEWEL 1200 metres
 
SPIN DOCTOR – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200m and was obliged to shift wider to improve.
 
MISHANI RAIDER – At the 600m, steadied from heels whilst over racing.
 
RUPERT'S HOUSE – Dipped passing the 350m becoming awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer B. Baker was asked to report back to Stewards the post race condition of the gelding.
 
TOP FUN – Raced wide with cover. Shifted out under pressure passing the 200m.
 
MISHANI GANGSTER – Raced wide throughout.  
 
SHOT OF WHISKEY (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
TRIFLING – Passing the 1000m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of RUPERT’S HOUSE, which shifted out when attempting to relieve pressure to runners on its inside, then continued to over race for a short distance afterwards. At the 600m, steadied from heels whilst over racing.
 
CRIMSON WARNING – Raced wide throughout.
 
GLASS OF ROSE – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 1000m to inside of IN EVIDENCE who was racing tight to the inside of RUPERT’S HOUSE, who was awkwardly placed to the inside of SPIN DOCTOR.
 
WITHIN REASON – Slow to begin. Over raced during the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
RINGER'S REWARD – Slow to begin. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m when having to avoid the heels of TOP FUN, which shifted out under pressure.
 
SALT LAKE BETTY – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide with cover.
 
MINTO'S D'ORO – Began awkwardly, and shifted in bumping RINGER’S REWARD. Over raced during the early stages. Passing the 600m, became awkwardly placed on heels whilst racing greenly. Raced wide with cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying clinical signs of tying up.  
 
Race 8: CHANNEL 7 QTIS JEWEL 1200 metres
 
ALL THAT PIZZAZZ – Raced wide throughout.
 
BETTER RAIN – Raced wide throughout
 
CORFE CASTLE – Raced wide throughout.
 
BROOKHAVEN – Momentarily inconvenienced inside the 100m.
 
BETTERDEEL – Stood flatfooted and missed the start. Passing the 1000m, had to be restrained off heels.
 
SHE'SGOTTHEBOOM – Jockey J. Orman reported that on entering the home straight his mount made audible breathing noises and commenced to give ground, therefore he elected not to pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow post race recovery. Trainer D. Forster to advise Stewards if anything comes to light in the ensuing days with the filly.
 
EVEN NOW – Passing the 1000m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of GRANITE PRINCE, who shifted in and away from BURNISH GOLD. Inside the 100m shifted out resulting in the filly’s hindquarters being turned in, and the filly becoming awkward in its action. Jockey T. Marshall was fined for raising his whip arm above shoulder height on two occasions under the provisions of AR132(6)(b).  
 
EKATERINA – Restrained from an outside barrier to take up a position on the fence at the rear of the field.   
 
EN POINTE – Began awkwardly and shifted out contacting EVEN NOW. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinical signs of heat stress and was treated by the on course veterinarian.
 
GRANITE PRINCE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure throughout.
 
BOOM COURT – Found to have bled both nostrils on returning to scale. Co-trainer Mr S. O’Dea was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to start for a period of three months.
 
Race 9: TRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1350 metres
 
HIGH COST – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Awkwardly placed on heels passing the 250m and had to shift out.
At the 50m, shifted out and contacted WHY WE DRINK.
 
OPACITY (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Declared a late scratching at 4.38pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the tie up stalls.
 
WHY WE DRINK – Passing the 50m, momentarily inconvenienced by HIGH COST.
 
DEEP SCEIVA – Over raced during the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Thompson stated that his mount over raced in the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight, commenced to weaken.
 
TELEPHONE BOOTH – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. At the 300m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of HIGH COST which shifted out to improve when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Potgieter was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.
