Race 1: Wallace Bishop Open H’cap - 1600m
1st – Mr Light Blue 2nd – Interview 3rd – Kumali 4th – Silent Movie

KUMALI (P. Keane) overraced in the early stages.

MR SLICK (G. Cooksley) raced fiercely at the heels of INTERVIEW (T. Bell) passing the 1200m, obliging G. Cooksley to press forward on MR SLICK to the position outside the leader near the 900m.

From a point near the 350m to inside the 200m, MR LIGHT BLUE (C. Munce) made contact with INTERVIEW on several occasions when C. Munce was attempting to provide MR LIGHT BLUE with clear running to the outside of KUMALI.

G. Cooksley, rider of MR SLICK, reported that a short distance into the straight, ROCKDALE (L. Rolls) shifted out forward of him, resulting in his mount being held up on the heels of that runner until a point leaving the 250m. Jockey Cooksley added that MR SLICK did not finish the race off as expected once afforded clear running.

Trainer D. Scanes (MR SLICK) was admonished for his behaviour in the enclosure subsequent to Race 1.

Race 2: Channel 9’s: The Voice QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Wolfsburg 2nd – Holey Gadoley 3rd – Khaantantes 4th - Dansal

ELLAWISDOM (C. Munce) and SPINNING HEART (G. Cooklsey) were slow to begin.

RING ME RUBY (R. Wiggins) jumped outwards at the start, taking HERE’S TO YA (G. Colless) out on to BURLEIGH HEADS (P. Hammersley).

Near the 1000m, REGRETS (G. Geran), which was having its first start in a race, raced greenly at the heels of KHAANTANTES (B. Stewart) and had to be restrained by its rider. REGRETS continued to race greenly and near the 600m improved onto the heels of KHAANTANTES and shifted out, taking BURLEIGH HEADS wider.

HOLEY GADOLEY (M. McGuren) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

For some distance approaching and passing the 200m, RING ME RUBY was held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of KHAANTANTES. RING ME RUBY was then obliged to concede ground and shift outside of BURLEIGH LEADS in order to obtain clear running.

BURLEIGH HEADS and ELLAWISDOM (C. Wisdom) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice M. Vance, rider of PERFECT GLORY, reported that whilst she was somewhat impeded for clear running when committed to attempt to take a narrow run between HERE’S TO YA (G. Colless) and HOLEY GADOLEY in the home straight, she informed stewards that PERFECT GLORY was not able to take advantage of that tight run by virtue of the fact that PERFECT GLORY did not accelerate when asked for an effort in the early part of the straight. M. Vance added that when the run between HERE’S TO YA and HOLEY GADOLEY widened approaching the 100m she was able to position PERFECT GLORY into that gap and it finished the race off fairly.

C. Munce reported that ELLAWISDOM raced greenly and hung out during the event, which necessitated him switching the whip over to his left hand in the early part of the straight. He added that the horse continued to hang out in the straight and until such time as he tested the horse with the whip at which point it then commenced to lay in. C. Munce stated that from that point forward he rode ELLAWISDOM hands and heels but, in his view, the filly had peaked on its run inside the final 100m.

Stewards sought an explanation from R. Mason regarding her riding of DANSAL over the final 200m where there appeared to be a narrow run available to improve between Wolfsburg (T. Bell) and HOLEY GADOLEY (M. McGuren). R. Mason explained that she had been disappointed for clear running for a major part of the home straight and although a narrow run may have appeared passing the 100m, at this point she had made the decision to attempt to shift to the outside of HOLEY GADOLEY to obtain clear running. Whilst stewards acknowledged that the run between WOLFSBURG and HOLEY GADOLEY was only available for a short distance, they informed R. Mason that she had erred by not persisting to take advantage of that run but given the circumstances stewards were not of the view that this error infringed any rules of racing.

A post race veterinary examination of REGRETS revealed the horse had broken down in the off foreleg. Trainer S Tregea will be required to provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for REGRETS prior to the colt's next race start.

Race 3: Pete & Mary Triple One Six Class 6 H'cap - 1835m
1st – Diago 2nd – Dodging Eddie 3rd – Carn 4th - Manicero

MANICERO, which was fractious in the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

GOD’S HAND (M. Speers) and DIAGO (D. Browne) were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000m, GOD’S HAND (M. Speers) improved up onto the heels of DODGING EDDIE (C. Munce) and had to be restrained.

After passing the 1000m when DIAGO (D. Browne) assumed the lead and the pace steadied, MANICERO (R. Wiggins) shifting out around the heels of CARN (J. Taylor), forcing LOVES A CHALLENGE (E. Wilkinson) wider. LOVES A CHALLENGE raced wide for the remainder of the race.

Near the 400m, ONETIMEATBANDCAMP (T. Bell) shifted out around the heels of LOVES A CHALLENGE in order to improve and in doing so hampered BILLUM (C. Schofield).

Passing the 200m, BILLUM had to be steadied when tightened for room between ONETIMEATBANDCAMP and MURRUMBA DOWNS, which shifted in when placed under pressure.

D. Browne reported that he was instructed to settle DIAGO with cover in a position worse than midfield. He explained that when the pace was slow in the early stages when he was racing 3 wide, he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward to the lead approaching the 1100m.

Race 4: KFC Benchmark 85 H'cap - 1300m
1st – Symposium 2nd – Felony Flight 3rd – God’s Window 4th – Felony Flight

PARIS BLUE (M. Vance) lost its footing behind on jumping away and lost ground.

LANCET (A. Spinks) and TAFEER (R. McMahon) bumped at the start.

GENERAL PURPLE (M. McGuren) began awkwardly.

P. Hammersley, rider of FELONY FLIGHT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1150m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ATLANTA FALCON (T. Bell), resulting in that horse being taken in on to LANCET (A. Spinks), resulting in A. Spinks having to take hold of LANCETA and relinquish its rightful position. PARIS BLUE, which was trailing LANCETA, was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of that runner and then became awkwardly placed on the heels of SYMPOSIUM and had to be checked. P. Hammersley was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 April and to expire at midnight, 18 April.

For some distance approaching and passing the 1000m, TAFEER and THE REVELLER (P. Keane) raced fiercely.

GENERAL PURPLE, EASTLINE (A. Allen), BIANCA JEWEL (R. Wiggins) and LOOPED (D. Browne) raced wide throughout.

GENERAL PURPLE laid in under pressure in the straight.

A post race veterinary examinations revealed PARIS BLU had sustained a laceration to the near foreleg consistent with having been galloped on, and LANCET sustained lacerations to both hind bumpers.

TAFEER lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 5: White Lady Funerals Class 6 H'cap - 1500m
1st – Rock Home Late 2nd – Bingo Rose 3rd – Ausworld 4th – Kaunda

SANTO DE LAGO (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

I’LLBETRICKED (A. Spinks) was tightened for room soon after the start between LUCKY SONGS (A. Allen), which was taken in slightly by TEA TATTLE (L. Rolls), and BINGO ROSE (M.Hellyer),which was taken out by ROCK HOME LATE (D. Browne).

Passing the 1000m SANTO DE LAGO commenced to overraced and had to be checked from the heels of KAUNDA (C. Munce). I’LLBETRICKED, which was following, also had to be checked as a consequence and shifted out across the heels of TEA TATTLE.

SANTO DE LAGO was inclined to lay out under pressure in the early part of the home straight and over the final 250m had difficulty obtaining clear running, which resulted in G. Colless being unable to fully test the gelding.

BINGO ROSE shifted out when placed under pressure over the final 350m.

AUSWORLD (M. McGuren) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until after passing the 200m.

TEA TATTLE was held up when unable to obtain clear running over the final 150m and went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

LUCKY SONGS, CHART (P. Hammersley) and RANDOM ORBIT (G. Cooksley) raced wide for the majority of the race.

WIN A MILLION fractured its near fore fetlock after passing the winning post and was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.

Race 6: Webuyanycar.com.au QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Morning Captain 2nd – Hidden Jewel 3rd Judy’s Joy 4th – Jack’s Back

DELROSA, which reared up in the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 3.21 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on DELROSA were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

1 cent in the dollar for the Winner Morning Captain
1 cent in the dollar for place of winner Morning Captain
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place Hidden Jewel
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place Judy’s Joy

Stable representative Mr S Morrisey was advised that DELROSA must either obtain two further barrier certificates or compete in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.

On jumping, BLISSFUL BELLE (B. Stewart) shifted in and bumped JACK’S BACK (G. Cooksley), taking that horse in on to KAHUI (J. Taylor), which in turn made contact with GEOLOGICAL (R. Wiggins).

Approaching the first turn, GEOLOGICAL got its head in the air and race erratically, losing considerable ground.

For some distance after passing the 900m, RUN WITH ME (P.Hammersley)had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between VENTURE ON (S.Galloway) and BLISSFUL BELLE which shifted out slightly when awkwardly placed at the heels of JUDY'S JOY (L.Casssidy).

In the early stages of the home straight, JACK’S BACK was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure, which resulted in its rider being unable to fully test the horse through that section of the race.

JUDY’S JOY was held up for clear running in the straight until near the 200m and was again unable to obtain clear running for some distance approaching and passing the 100m.

Leaving the 200m, MORE BUBBLY (T. Bell) improved up on to the heels of the tiring ROCK ACADEMY (D. Browne) and when being restrained shifted out, resulting in BLISSFUL BELLE having to be checked. In the circumstances, no direct action was taken.

At the same stage, GEOLOGICAL resented racing in restricted room between KAHUI and BELLE D’AMOUR (M. Vance) and shifted in, resulting in R. Wiggins having to take hold GEOLOGICAL when placed awkwardly at the heels of KAHUI.

JACK’S BACK, BELLE D’AMOUR (M. Vance) and ABSALON (E. Wilkinson) raced wide throughout.

R. McMahon advised that from the outside barrier he restrained TRUMP in the early stages in an attempt to gain a position closer to the rail in compliance with the instructions issued. R. McMahon added that he shifted TRUMP wider on the track rounding the home turn and the horse finished the race off well.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Taylor regarding the performance of KAHUI. He explained that the filly was a little slow to begin and then resented racing in restricted room near the 1100m between GEOLOGICAL and BLISSFUL BELLE when that runner shifted in slightly. J. Taylor added that KAHUI was not comfortable in the middle stages also when racing to the inside of horses, and for a major part of the home straight he had difficulty obtaining clear running, and due to the circumstances he was not completely dissatisfied with its performance today.

Race 7: GOA Noticed Open H'cap - 1000m
1st – G’day Old Mate 2nd – Tycoon Tattoo 3rd – Multire Music 4th – Girls Go Racing

AMBER’S CROWN (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

From the 600m until the 500m, MY COOKIE MONSTER (R. McMahon) and GIRLS GO RACING (C. Schofield) bumped on a number of occasions.

RAMA KAHO (C. Munce) and GIRLS GO RACING (C. Schofield) raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of ANOTHER TAKEOVER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of AMBER’S CROWN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 8: Double One 3 Teneriffe NMW H'cap – 1000m
1st – Vaarwel 2nd – All That 3rd – Snippets Secret/Invincible

L. Cassidy was examined by the doctor and stood down from his engagement on RIPLEY GLEN and was replaced by R. Wiggins.

DR BARNARD (M. Vance was slow to begin.

SIGNIFIED (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin and soon after the start shifted out, brushing the hind quarters of INVINCIBLE MATE (E. Wilkinson).

Near the 700m, EMBRAER (R. McMahon) shifted in and away from THE JAZZY PRINCE (P.Hammersley) and bumped RIPLEY GLEN (R. Wiggins).

DR BARNARD had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight and until approaching the 150m.

Near he 250m, SNIPPETS SECRET (T. Bell) had to be steadied from the heels of MIST IN THE MORN (G. Cooksley) when that runner shifted in slightly. SNIPPETS SECRET then had some difficulty securing clear running between INVINCIBLE MATE and MIST IN THE MORN.

Approaching and passing the 100m, EMBRAER was unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of MIST IN THE MORN (G.Cooksley).

ALL THAT (A. Butler), SEAZA (B. Stewart) and HANDBAG (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

M. Hellyer reported that he intended to have SIGNIFIED race in a more prominent position, however after being slow to begin and bumping INVINCIBLE MATE soon after the start, he settled at the rear of the field and to avoid being held up for clear running remained wide and shifted wider in the home straight and SIGNIFIED worked to the line well. M. Hellyer added that SIGNIFIED will be better suited in races of a further distance than that of today’s race.
