Race 1: LADBROKES PUNTER ASSIST QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1400 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when MISHANI AMBITIOUS required a veterinary inspection.
 
FELIX THE SCAT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened, obliged to shift wider on the track.
 
ADELAD – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened, obliged to shift wider on the track.
 
BOBBY SHIRAZ (NZ) – Approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened, obliged to shift wider on the track.
 
HIMEJI – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race and got its head up and continued to race erratically until leaving the 900m. 
 
BIG BOY BEN – When the pace of the race slackened approaching the 1000m, became awkward at heels.  
 
MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination and cleared to start. Fractious in the barriers, began slow and bumped ADELAD. Stewards cautioned jockey T. Harrison in regards to excessively slowing the pace of the race on approaching the 1000m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a nasal discharge and making a respiratory noise. Trainer L. Ross was advised that MISHANI AMBITIOUS will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again. 
 
MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained. Raced wide throughout. At the 1000m, became awkward at the heels of BOBBY SHIRAZ which shifted out resulting in the filly being forced wider. 
 
 
Race 2: MATER LITTLE MIRACLES BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1805 metres
 
BOTTEGA - When asked to comment regarding leading in today’s event, apprentice M. Potgieter stated that after discussing with trainer Mr L. Freedman they were of the opinion that there was little pace in the race. He stated that after beginning well he was able to take up a leading position and was obliged to race closer than its usual racing pattern. Stewards noticed apprentice Potgieter’s comments.
 
SHE'S THE GIFT (NZ) – Approaching the 1100m obliged to steady from the heels of KALAPOUR who shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey J. Byrne was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for shifting in. When questioned regarding the performance of SHE’S THE GIFT, jockey J. Orman stated that the mare raced flat and may have come to the end of her preparation. Trainer’s representative, Mr B. Killion stated that the mare would be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow post race recovery.
 
KALAPOUR (IRE) – Leaving the 1300m left a rearward position and improved forward to race outside the leader approaching the 1100m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Brushed at the 50m point by SANTERO.
 
MUBARIZ (GB) – Slow to begin.
 
STUCK WITH YOU (NZ) – Raced keenly at heels approaching the 1200m when the pace of the race steadied.
 
SANTERO – Shifted in approaching the 50m and brushed KALAPOUR.
 
 
Race 3: TREVOR & JUDITH ST BAKER FAMILY FOUNDATION
BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1600 metres
 
COGNAC (IRE) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Checked at the 100m.
 
THE RITZ – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room from the 250m between THE RED KITE and ROSE OF DUPORTH.
 
FESTIVAL PRINCE – Jumped away awkwardly. At the 100m, laid in before being corrected despite the efforts of its rider. Lost the off fore plate in running.  
 
THE RED KITE (NZ) – Laid in under pressure early stages before being corrected by its rider. After being corrected commenced to shift out.
 
ROSE OF DUPORTH – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 300m. Checked at the 100m when crowded for room by FESTIVAL PRINCE which shifted in before being corrected and ROSE OF DUPORTH which shifted out under pressure. A. Jones, rider of THE RED KITE, and L. Cassidy, rider of FESTIVAL PRINCE, were both advised to exercise more care in future.  
 
SAMMY – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
TEXAS STORM – Raced wide throughout.
 
UNRELENTING – Laid out under pressure at the 200m. When asked to comment on the performance of UNRELENTING, jockey B. Thompson stated that the gelding peaked on its run at the 100m and may not have run out the 1600m after stepping up from 1200m last start.
 
 
Race 4: MERCEDES-BENZ BRISBANE QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1600 metres
 
MISHANI SPARTAN – Slow to begin. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SHA OF GOMER – Inconvenienced and carried wider shortly after the start. Momentarily inconvenienced at the heels of COMPASS ROSE leaving the 150m. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey J. Orman stated that SHA OF GOMER didn’t run out the mile.
 
ALTAR BOY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
FEARLESS KNIGHT – Inconvenienced and carried wider shortly after the start.
 
AMBASSADORS – Shortly after the start, shifted out resulting in runners to the outside carried wider.
 
BINDING – Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the improved performance, Trainers’ representative Mr C. Brough stated that the filly had derived significant fitness benefit from her last start and had pleased the stable in her work since. The stable also anticipated an improved performance with the step up to a more suitable distance.
 
COMPASS ROSE – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced and carried wider shortly after the start. Shifted out under pressure from the 150m point. Apprentice A. Jones was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying mild heat stress and a poor post race recovery.
 
MISHANI KINGDOM – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 5: VECCHIO PROPERTY GROUP BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2200 metres
 
TIP OF THE SPEAR (IRE) – Jockey B. Loy, when asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, stated that failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved disappointing. Trainer’s representative for the A. Neasham stable, Mr T. Pollard stated that the gelding raced flat today and it is the intention to give TIP OF THE SPEAR a short freshen up. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
WARP SPEED – Began awkwardly.
 
GO MILLO – Raced wide until the 1000m. Jockey J. Stanley commented that the gelding raced flat today. Trainer Mr M. Currie advised that the gelding will now go for a spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer M. Currie was advised that GO MILLO will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
AUSPICIOUS CLOUD – Passing the 800m was inconvenienced by TIP OF THE SPEAR which shifted in marginally.
 
CONTRITION (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
HELEVA DEEL – Raced wide until approaching the 1600m.
 
MIGHTY WILLIE – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 6: CHEMIST WAREHOUSE Class 3 Plate 1400 metres
 
SUNFALL – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.37am. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
FUN SPONGE – Bumped at the start. Jockey J. Stanley stated that the gelding was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
OUR MAGNUS – Bumped on jumping.
 
BULLION BOY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped OUR MAGNUS.
 
HYPE (IRE) – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
RATIONS (NZ) – Jumped inwards at the start and bumped HYPE.
 
ZHUANG SHI – Became awkwardly placed on heels at the 1000m and had to be restrained. Over raced for a short distance thereafter.
 
DUTCH GOLD – Raced wide throughout.
 
MADAME ODETTE – A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
BEFANA – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Steadied from heels at the 1200m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 7: PITCHERS PARTNERS OPEN Handicap 1200 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed by 4 minutes when the tongue tie had to be re-applied to HILAL.
 
HILAL – Leaving the 200m, shifted out under pressure and had to be corrected by its rider.
 
RANCH HAND – Leaving the 200m was awkwardly placed at the heels of ANIMATE and had to be steadied. J. Byrne, rider of ANIMATE, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. When asked to comment on the performance of RANCH HAND, jockey D. Thornton stated that the gelding was disappointing. Trainer’s representative for Mr C. Waller, Mr B. Killion stated that RANCH HAND has proved disappointing this preparation and the stable would give consideration to the future racing plans of the gelding.
 
THE BIG GOODBYE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ANIMATE – Leaving the 1100m, was inconvenienced by RANCH HAND which shifted out marginally after being crossed by HILAL.
 
IRISH SONGS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
LEGAL ESPRIT – Bumped and forced wider rounding the home turn when HILAL shifted out to improve.
 
HOT SPRING GOLD – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor could offer no comment, and in his opinion, was disappointing. Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip seven times prior to the 100m, being two more than permitted.
 
 
Race 8: ACE BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1200 metres
 
BEAUTY LEGACY – After becoming fractious in the tie up stall area, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.
 
MILL ROSSA – Raced wide throughout.
 
LEAVE ME SOME – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
LIGHT OF BOOM – Jockey E. Chaves was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(b) in that he used his whip above shoulder height.
 
SNAZZ 'N' CHARM – Began awkwardly.
 
MISS BALTIMORE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BILLY'S BRO – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 9: GOTRANSIT MEDIA GROUP BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1400 metres
 
INDISPENSABLE – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
BAANONE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
HILO – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.
 
MAGIC CHARLEE – When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, jockey J. Stanley stated that that MAGIC CHARLEE worked hard in the early stages and the mare was therefore disappointing in her finishing effort.
 
MORETHANNUMBERONE – Slow to begin. Near the 1200m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Improved onto heels leaving the 200m before shifting inwards to secure clear running.  
 
BRIARS KINGDOM – Bumped at the start.
 
LORD MARKEL (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped with BRIARS KINGDOM and lost ground. Shifted in and had hindquarters turned by SNEAK PREVIEW leaving the 1300m. Raced in restricted room approaching the 100m between HILO, which shifted out under pressure, and SNEAK PREVIEW, which was taken in marginally by INDISPENSABLE. Apprentice J. Lloyd was fined $300 under the provisions of AR210(1) for failing to weigh-in when required to do so. Apprentice Lloyd was advised that he has the right to internal review.
 
BLACKLOG (NZ) – Raced wide until leaving the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
SNEAK PREVIEW – Approaching the 1300m, bumped by LORD MARKEL. Raced in restricted room leaving the 1100m.
