GENERAL
 
As Apprentice E. Lang was injured, she was replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice E. Lang was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to resuming riding.
 
Trainer A. Campton was fined $300 pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch HIDDEN MELODY by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in races 5 and 8.
 
Trainer M. Currie was reprimanded pursuant to LR 44 for failing to provide a person in charge letter of authority prior to the race meeting.

RACE 1: CANADIAN CLUB BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         2206 M

PUNJABI LANDING– Slow to begin. Hung out in the home straight and took no competitive part over the final 200m. Jockey R. Hutchings reported at scale that his mount hung out for the majority of the event, in particular when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that PUNJABI LANDING would be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Trainer P. Shailer reported that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
CHASSAGNE – When asked to comment on the performance of CHASSANGE, Jockey R. Maloney stated that in his opinion, the mare may not have appreciated today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CONNECTICUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey J. Bayliss dropped the near side rein leaving the 150m.
 
SIR LAMORAK (IRE) – Trainer M. Currie was fined $200 pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting SIR LAMORAK (IRE) to the mounting yard without blinkers, before being directed to apply them as per the geldings approved gear.
 
OLD SONG – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that OLD SONG would settle further forward. Ridden accordingly, settled outside of the lead. Leaving the 100m, had to be steadied when weakening between DIVAKARA and CHASSANGE, which shifted out under pressure. Jockey R. Maloney the rider of CHASSANGE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) and reminded to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 


RACE 2: BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP        1810 M

DUSHENKA – Raced wide until the 900m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, Jockey B. Thompson explained that he was given no specific instructions other than to have the filly settle where comfortable, adding that he had envisioned more speed shown by outside runners which he had hoped would have allowed him to find a midfield position with cover, however, this did not eventuate. He further added that near the 1400m, he attempted to secure cover but was unable to do so, and as a result was caught three wide. Jockey B. Thompson added that he elected to allow DUSHENKA to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 1000m rather than remain three wide without cover. Trainer S. Kendrick stated that the preference would have been to have the filly settle with cover, however given the circumstances was not critical of the decision of Jockey B. Thomspon to progress to a forward position near then 1000m. Stewards noted the explanation tendered by Jockey B. Thompson.
 
LONESOME SOUL – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 300m.
 
CASTELLO GRANDE – Raced wide until the 1200m. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Improved onto heels near the 200m and had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event, resulting in CASTELLO GRANDE being unable to be fully tested to the finishing line.
 
AUTOFICTION – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer W. Kropp advised that in his opinion the gelding may have choked down and that it was his intention to drop AUTOFICTION back in distance with the addition of a tongue tie.
 
MR WORTHINGTON – Held up rounding the home turn until the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress.
 
SEVILO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Near the 1500m, raced ungenerously whilst being restrained. Disappointed for clear running to the inside of DIVERSITY near the 300m and was obliged to shift out. Approaching the crossing near the 1800m after completing the event, the gelding shied at the barriers positioned on the inside of the course proper. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
DIVERSITY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance of DIVERSITY, Apprentice J. McMurray reported that when placed under pressure in the home straight the filly failed to respond and was disappointing in its finishing efforts.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 


RACE 3: XXXX CLASS 3 PLATE   1810 M

CAVALRY MAN – Held up rounding the home turn and was obliged to alter course near the 300m.
 
MAZIS – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
 
VICTORY FLAME – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 100m.
 
BRAVE CALL (IRE) – Slow to begin. Near the 100m was hampered and carried wider after improving onto the heels of VICTORY FLAME. Jockey H. Van Der Hoven was reminded of his obligations to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
 
CHILLAXING (IRE) – Raced wide until the 1200m.
 
KOSUKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SUN WORSHIPPER – Raced wide until the 1300m. Apprentice O. Webb reported at scale that her mount hung in throughout. Laid in near the 300m and became awkwardly placed at heels.
 

RACE 4: EVA AIR OPEN HANDICAP     1000 M

IT'SOURTIME – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MAXIMUM OUTPUT – Trainer S. Kenrick was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting MAXIMUM OUTPUT to the mounting yard without prerace earmuffs, before being directed to apply them as per the geldings approved gear. Raced wide without cover.
 
FLAG HALL – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m, when racing in restricted room to the inside of PARTY FOR TWO and had to be steadied. Jockey R. Maloney the rider of PARTY FOR TWO was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Jockey C. Graham reported that in her opinion FLAG HALL may not have appreciated todays track conditions.
 
HERMANITA – Raced wide with cover. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
RACE 5: MADISON FACILITY SERVICES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP        1000 M

FIND YOUR OWN – Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Stewards opened an inquiry and took evidence regarding the riding and tactics adopted by Apprentice J. Williams on FIND YOUR OWN. Of concern to Stewards was the decision of Apprentice J. Williams to continue to pressure the gelding after obtaining the lead from PETICOAT near the 700m and that he appeared to continue to ride the gelding along until the 500m before FIND YOUR OWN then weakened from the 300m. Stewards also took evidence from Trainer S. Morrisey and adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HEROIC MISS – Began awkwardly, bumped BLUE SPINEL and momentarily became unbalanced.
 
BLUE SPINEL – Began awkwardly and bumped HEROIC MISS.
 
CUSTO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
THANKYOU HENRY – Trainer T. Georgieff was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting THANKYOU HENR to the mounting yard with pre-race earmuffs, before being directed to remove them as per the geldings approved gear. Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SHES OURS.
 
SHE OURS – Bumped on jumping away.


RACE 6: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS BOOK NOW RATINGS BAND 0 - 70 HANDICAP        1000 M
 
MAGURO – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
 
SPEEDY ONE – Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m. Raced wide early.
 
PALEFACE RINGO – Approaching the 900m, checked when tightened for room between KELLY'S LANDING, which shifted out after blundering and SPEEDY ONE, which was carried in by VEGAS RAIDER who was taken in by MAGURO. Apprentice J. Williams the rider of MAGURO, was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of VEGAS RAIDER. Raced wide the majority.
 
STATE IN TEXAS – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported at scale that his mount laid out for the majority of the event.
 
VEGAS RAIDER – Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m. Raced wide.
 
MOULIN MISS  – In the vicinity of the 850m, had to be steadied when BARBERRY SPUR shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey A. Thompson the rider of BARBERRY SPUR was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
BREMEL – Over-raced in the middle stages. Raced in restricted room near the 50m. When asked to comment on the performance of BREMEL, Jockey D. Thornton reported that after being crossed in the early stages the mare did not appreciate racing in restricted room. He further added that he had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages, and was not overly disappointed with BREMELS’s performance given the circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KELLY'S LANDING – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m, shifted in slightly, clipping the heels of BARBERRY SPUR and blundered. Stewards inquired into this incident and after taking evidence from the riders involved, could not be comfortably satisfied that any rider was at fault. Raced wide. Laid out when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Jockey J. Huxtable advised Stewards that the mare did not feel comfortable in its action during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be short stepping in front. Trainer B. Gray was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again,
 
XERRI – Raced wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BARBERRY SPUR – Shifted out marginally near the 900m. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith reported that upon return to the stables, the gelding was found to have superficial abrasions to its near hindleg.
 
Prior to the running of Race 7, lightning strikes were detected within the vicinity of the racecourse, resulting in Stewards delaying the start of the event, however due to continued lightning and thunderstorm activity in the vicinity of the racecourse and with the forecast continued storm activity, Stewards deemed it unsafe to continue and the meeting was called off at 4:40pm.
