RACE 6: NOVA 106.9 BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 2231 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey R. Maloney the rider of the 2nd placed ICHIBAN against 1st placed TUKI TWELVE (D. Moor) alleging interference leaving the 200m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, were of the opinion that at a point approaching the 200m, ICHIBAN improved into a run to the inside of TUKI TWELVE and at a point leaving the 200m, TUKI TWELVE shifted in under riding, resulting in ICHIBAN being directed away from its rightful running to avoid the heels of TUKI TWELVE. When considering the interference suffered, along with the long head margin, the proximity to the finish line and how both runners finished the race off over the concluding stages, Stewards were satisfied that had this incident not occurred that ICHIBAN would have finished ahead of TUKI TWELVE at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was upheld, and correct weight given on the amended judges placings.
