TAVANASIA (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey E Bell stated that TAVANASIA (NZ) had put in an awkward stride near the 400m and in her opinion believes that gelding may have choked down in running. Trainer G Bell advised stewards that the gelding was disappointing second up in this current preparation, however added that TAVANASIA (NZ) is better suited to racing over further distances. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) – Near the 900m, commenced to overrace when awkwardly placed on the heels of MR TANGLES and shifted outwards, carrying INVICTUS LAD wider. A post-race veterinary examination of JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) revealed that the mare had bled from both nostrils. Stewards inquired into the circumstances where MR GREY was checked near the 1400m. After taking initial evidence from riders E Bell (SAINT CAYETANO), Apprentice G Semmens (FINAL COMMENT), W Satherley (MR GREY), T Chambers (CITIROC) and A Sewell (MASALI RAFFA), it was established that when MASALI RAFFA was racing forward and looking to shift inwards, CITIROC racing to the inside commenced to charge forward and as a result was briefly tightened, which resulted in MR GREY racing further to the inside, being tightened and checked. SAINT CAYETANO and FINAL COMMENT, which were racing further to the inside of MR GREY, raced in restricted room briefly. Stewards issued a charge against jockey A Sewell (MASALI RAFFA) under the provisions of AR131(a) in that he shifted inwards, causing CITIROC to be tightened in onto MR GREY, resulting in that runner being checked. Jockey Sewell pleaded not guilty to the charge and advanced further evidence and re-questioned jockey T Chambers (CITIROC). When considering the charge issued against jockey Sewell, the evidence in its entirety and particularly the lack of satisfactory vision which would provide supportive evidence, stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite standard that the charge against jockey Sewell could be sustained, therefore a finding of not guilty was reached and the circumstances of the incident noted.
