BLACKJACK BOOM – Apprentice Z Lloyd dropped his near side rein passing the 200 metres, placing him at a slight disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

MADAM AVA – Stewards questioned rider N Callow in relation to the performance of the filly. Rider Callow reported that the filly began only fairly and then failed to muster early speed as it did at its only other start and, as a result, was hard ridden throughout the event in an endeavour to obtain a more forward position. Rider Callow further reported that the filly commenced to run on well in the home straight and, in his opinion, would be better suited in races over a greater distance than that of today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation. A swab sample was taken from the filly for analysis.

KING SHALAA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TOP BIRD – Laid out rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

RACE 3: JR STEPHENS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 METRE

Start was initially delayed when SHE’S ABLAZING and VIVID FLASH proved slightly difficult to load. The start was then further delayed when ZOUHAVEN proved very difficult to load. Co-trainer M Hoysted was advised that ZOUHAVEN would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.

VIVID FLASH – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 600 metres and as a result raced wide without cover from this point. Raced greenly in the home straight.

ZOUHAVEN – Began awkwardly.

SHE'S ABLAZING – Checked when tightened for room near the 250 metres. Improved onto the heels of TINY TIARA approaching the winning post and shifted out abruptly.

MY MISS MOONPIE – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters near the 250 metres.

TINY TIARA – Laid out rounding the home turn. Near the 250 metres, shifted in abruptly upon being struck with the whip.

RACE 4: BIN IT NOW COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 METRES

NORDIC PRINCE – Weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore limb. Trainer C Anderson was advised that NORDIC PRINCE would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

ANARCHY – Trainer K Schweida was fined $200.00 pursuant to AR206(2) for the late notification of earmuffs being removed from the horse’s racing gear. Commenced to hang out from the 700 metres and shifted very wide on the track rounding the home turn. Trainer K Schweida was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.

LIPEANSASS – Slow to begin.

FAR REACHING – Raced wide without cover throughout.

FIVE CHERRYS – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 6: GOLD COAST ISUZU BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1400 METRES

LOUIS JANUARY – Rider B Thornton dropped his whip near the 150 metres. Hung in over the final 100 metres proving difficult to ride out before being checked over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room. Rider B Thornton reported that the gelding enjoyed a good run throughout the event where it travelled comfortably throughout. He added however that the gelding quickened for only a short distance and from the 200 metres had peaked on its run and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

EL COYOTE (GB) – Hung out rounding the home turn. Checked at the winning post when awkwardly placed at heels.

LIABILITY – Began awkwardly.

FLYING MACHINE – Slow to begin.

PETUNIA – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run near the 250 metres before shifting to the outside to secure clear running.

RACE 7: SUEZ CLASS 1 PLATE 1100 METRES

MILL ROSSA – Began awkwardly, shifting out and making heavy contact with another runner. Stewards questioned apprentice Z Lloyd in relation to his riding of MILL ROSSA rounding the home turn and in the home straight as to whether there was an opportunity to secure clear running earlier than he did. Apprentice Lloyd advised that approaching the home turn he had committed to the outside of the heels of FOXY RIPPA, which was racing forward of him, prior to that runner commenced to lay out slightly. Apprentice Lloyd advised that as a result of this he was unable to take advantage of a run which had briefly appeared to the inside of that runner rounding the home turn. Apprentice Lloyd added that when FOXY RIPPA then shifted back to the rail in the early stages of the home straight, he felt a narrow run may present between FOXY RIPPA and SHOOTING ROSES, however this run did not fully open at this point for him to take advantage of and therefore he attempted to shift to the outside of SHOOTING ROSES approaching the 250 metres, however when CALL ME MAGGI, which was racing to the outside, laid in he was prevented from shifting wider at this point. Apprentice Lloyd further added that he remained held up for some distance from this point until a point approaching the 100 metres where he was finally able to shift to the outside of the heels of SHOOTING ROSES, where he was able to secure clear running in the run to the finish. Stewards noted his explanation.

SCHWEID AS – Slow to begin. Overraced badly during the middle stages and was checked from heels near the 700 metres. Jockey Wolfgram could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CALL ME MAGGIE – Bumped heavily on jumping. Raced three-wide without cover throughout the event. Following the event, it was noted that the mare had sustained a minor laceration to its off hind hock.

GAELIC PUZZLE – Overraced badly during the middle stages and was checked from heels near the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained multiple lacerations to its near hind hock consistent with being galloped on. The trainer’s representative for Trainer R Heathcote was advised that GAELIC PUZZLE would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

ZOUMANJI – Began awkwardly.

RACE 8: RANDSTAD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1800 METRES

On return to scale, M Hellyer, the rider of the deadheat 2nd  placegetter KAIBERRY, lodged an objection against 1st placegetter TIDES OF JUPITER for alleged interference over the concluding stages of the event. After taking evidence from the riders and their respective trainers and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that whilst KAIBERRY was forced to race in restricted room over the final 50 metres when TIDES OF JUPITER crowded that runner, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that KAIBERRY had not in fact initiated the contact between the runners by shifting out marginally at that point. Therefore Stewards could not be satisfied that the sole contributor to this incident was TIDES OF JUPITER and therefore the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judges’ placings of 7, 3-9, 8.

SRINI – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground.

TIDES OF JUPITER – Began awkwardly. Ridden forward by its rider passing the 1200 metres to obtain a more forward position, however as a consequence was forced to race three-wide for the remainder of the event.

KAIBERRY (NZ) – After beginning well, obtained a forward position and as a consequence settled further forward than anticipated. Near the 50 metres, was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of A Allen, the rider of RIOT ACT. Raced in restricted room over the final 50m.

LADY RINGO – Slow to begin.

RACE 9: GOLD COAST TYRE & AUTO RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1400 METRES

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the footage to determine if a protest could be lodged on behalf of the connection of TOROWOTO alleging interference against THE KNIGHT in the home straight. Having reviewed the footage, Stewards could not be satisfied that any protest lodged could be successful and therefore correct weight was declared on the judges’ placings.

CONSULAR – Raced three-wide without cover throughout the event.

TOROWOTO – Bumped on jumping losing ground. Forced wider by other runners over the final 50 metres.

AWARD KNIGHT – Checked to avoid heels near the 100 metres.

AMORE PRIMUS – Checked when tightened for room near the 100 metres. At a subsequent inquiry, A Fancourt, rider of THE KNIGHT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift out near the 100 metres when being ridden along with the whip when insufficiently clear of LEMON DUCHESS (S Galloway), resulting in that runner being forced to shift out, further resulting in AMORE PRIMUS (M Hellyer) being tightened for room and checked. Stewards suspended rider A Fancourt’s licence to ride in races for a period of eight (8) days to commence at midnight on 19 September 2021 and to expire at midnight on 27 September 2021.

PURPLE DIAMOND – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels rounding the home turn.

WICKMO – Stewards questioned rider J Guthmann-Chester in relation to the mare’s below market expectation performance. Guthmann-Chester advised that whilst the mare travelled well during the event, in his opinion, it weas not suited when pressured by EXPRESSO LOVE during the middle stages of the event. Guthmann-Chester added that notwithstanding this, he was still disappointed with the mare’s finishing effort in his opinion proved disappointing. Trainer M Wilson also expressed disappointment in the performance of the mare and added that in light of today’s  performance he would now consider its future in his stable. Stewards questioned rider J Guthmann-Chester in relation to his actions in the early stages of the home straight where he appeared to look to his outside and verbally made a statement to riders to his outside. Guthmann-Chester advised that at this point of the event he did in fact make a verbal statement to apprentice I Teh, rider of EXPRESSO LOVE, through frustration in relation to her pressuring his mount during the event. Having had the opportunity to review the footage, jockey Guthmann-Chester acknowledged that such actions were below the expected professional standard of a senior rider, particularly towards an apprentice rider. Stewards noted jockey Guthmann-Chester’s explanation, however advised him that they reserve the right to review the matter further to ensure no further integrity issue may be present, which may include the review of the betting information on this event.

THE KNIGHT – Raced three-wide without cover throughout the event.

LEMON DUCHESS – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start.

SMARTCELLI – Stood flat footed at the start losing considerable ground, taking no competitive part in the event. Stewards advised trainer T Cotsiopolous that the mare would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.
