Race 4- HAYATE- C Robertson- +1/2kg

Race 1: QMS MEDIA Maiden Plate 2200 metres

ISOMETRIC – Began awkwardly. For some distance passing the 1100m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at heels.

JIMMY THE TULIP – After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a position one off the fence near the 1200m.

KINGS COUNSEL – Lost its near fore plate in running.

OCEANARIUM – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide without cover for the majority.

LYNDALL – Passing the 1400m, when ridden forward by its rider, commenced to race keenly and as a consequence near the 1000m improved into a run where there was doubtful room. Apprentice Cornish the rider of LYNDALL was advised that in similar circumstances to make a greater effort to restrain her mount than she did on this occasion to prevent her mount from improving into a position where there was insufficient room.

ZEEBLING – Momentarily held up approaching the 500m.

Race 2: K FLANDERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 900 metres

TWYFORD – Slow to begin.

PROUD OF YOU – Bumped shortly after the start.

ASHMOLEAN – After beginning only fairly, was bumped heavily shortly after the start and lost ground. Lost its off fore plate in running.

PURPLE SONG – Bumped shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the below market expectation performance, Apprentice Cornish advised that after being bumped at the start the filly had a tendency to race greenly and failed to travel as strongly throughout the event as she had anticipated. Apprentice Cornish added that she advised connections that in her opinion the filly may benefit with the addition of blinkers. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CHAYSE 'N' MENARI – Put in an awkward stride and dipped passing the 300m.

Race 3:  QMS OUT OF THE ORDINARY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 900 metres

BOLD RANSOM – Raced keenly in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a minor laceration to the off foreleg.

BOLD RUMBLE – Laid out in the early and middle stages.

CRUISING BILL – Began awkwardly.

FIERY EXCHANGE – Tightened for room and checked near the 600m. At a subsequent inquiry jockey S Cormack the rider of STARBOOK was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that as the rider of that filly he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BOLD RANSOM, which was tightened for room and forced inwards tightening the running of FIERY EXCHANGE which was checked by its rider. Jockey Cormack’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 20th March 2022 and to expire at midnight 28Th March 2022. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to both hind legs consistent with having been galloped on.

Race 4: LIPPETT'S ROAD TRIP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1800 metres

Stewards questioned apprentice Z Lloyd the rider of ZAWADI and apprentice J Cornish the rider of CALM SEEKER in relation to their riding of their respective mounts during the early and middle stages. Of concern to stewards, was the tempo set during the early and middle stages whereby both runners established a considerable lead over the remainder of the field. Apprentice Cornish advised that as per her instructions it was her intention to obtain a forward position on CALM SEEKER however to obtain cover during the event if possible. Apprentice Cornish added that after beginning well the horse commenced to over race from a point approaching the 1600m when challenged by ZAWADI, which improved to her outside, and as a consequence proved difficult to restrain. Apprentice Lloyd advised that after beginning well it was his intention to obtain the leading position as per the horses recent racing pattern and for that reason in the early stages until a point near the 1200m he did not overly restrain ZAWADI as it was his intention to attempt to cross that runner. Apprentice Lloyd went on to state that from the 1200m when it became apparent that he would be unable to cross CALM SEEKER he placed ZAWADI under greater restraint in an endeavour to reduce the tempo of the event. Having had the opportunity to review the footage stewards were satisfied that CALM SEEKER over raced during the early and middle stages and proved difficult to restrain despite apprentice Cornish’s efforts to do so and therefore found no fault in her riding in relation to this matter. Having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage, apprentice Lloyd agreed with stewards that he had erred in not attempting to restrain ZAWADI sooner than he did in an endeavour to slow the tempo of the event. Stewards however bearing in mind apprentice Lloyds relative inexperience as an apprentice did not feel his riding feel below the required standard to warrant any charge being issued against him and therefore took the matter no further other than to remind him as to not leave his riding open to questioning by stewards.

ZAWADI – Tightened on jumping.

HEAD UP HIGH – Bumped on jumping.

WHO LOVES TO DANCE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

CALM SEEKER – Bumped on jumping.

BUMRAH – Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding which weakened in the home straight failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K Purdy advised that the gelding had performed in a similar fashion at its only other start at this venue and therefore would endeavour not to run the gelding at this venue in the future. Ms Purdy added that should any abnormality become apparent in the days subsequent to todays meeting which may have affected the horse’s performance she would report the issue to stewards.

HE'S THE DEEL – Tightened for room at the start.

Race 5: OUTDOOR UNLEASHED QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1400 metres

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 150m whereby KISS MY MILLO was tightened for room and TEE AMICI was severely tightened for room and checked. After taking evidence it was established that shortly prior to the incident occurring TEE AMICI commenced to lay in and away from BOLD HALO which had improved to that runners outside and as a result caused KISS MY MILLO which was racing to the inside of TEE AMICI to be placed in restricted room. A short distance later NATALIEANN, which was racing to the inside, commenced to shift out and after being bumped on the hindquarters then shifted out abruptly causing KISS MY MILLO and TEE AMICI to both be severely tightened for room and TEE AMICI to be checked. In this incident BOLD HALO which was racing to the outside contributed to the tightening by shifting in marginally also. Whilst stewards considered the incident to be one of some significance, they were unable to attribute blame to any one rider and therefore reported the matter as a racing incident.

KISS MY MILLO – Slow to begin. Severely tightened for room near the 150m.

SECRET KING – Near the 300m, was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of NATALIEANN which shifted out marginally and KISS MY MILLO which shifted in to secure clear running. Apprentice Z Lloyd the rider of KISS MY MILLO was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Near the 150m checked to avoid runners forward of the gelding which had suffered interference.

CRYMENOTEARS – Laid out rounding the home turn.

BOLD HALO – Shifted in marginally near the 150m and was bumped on the hindquarters resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced.

NATALIEANN – Shifted out near the 150m and was bumped on the hindquarters resulting in the filly becoming unbalanced.

TEE AMICI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Severely tightened for room near the 150m and was checked.

Race 6: DR ELLIOTT REID SIMPSON Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres

IMPOSING BEAU – Approaching the 800m was obliged to shift wider on the track.

ZOUMANJI – Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey N Callow could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be coughing consistent with the possible onset of a virus. Co-trainer Trent Edmonds was advised the stable would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination for the mare prior to it next racing.

KOLLUR – Apprentice Z Lloyd dropped his offside rein near the 150m placing him at a disadvantage for a short distance.

MONTE DI ROSE – Slow to begin.
