GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting-

Race 6 – SEE IT THRU – T See +1/2kg

As jockey A Morgan was indisposed and apprentice C Collis was ill, rider changes were made as per the steward’s summary.

Trainer S Lee was fined $200 for failing to declare the rider for SEE IT THRU by the prescribed time. LR67(1)

Trainer B Gorman was fined $200 for failing to scratch THAT’LL BE THE DAY which was engaged in race 8, by the prescribed time. LR68(1)

Race 1: LLOYDS AUCTIONS Maiden Handicap 1300 metres

STEAL THE FIELD – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

JOE MAMA (NZ) – Raced wide during the early and middle stages before obtaining the leading position near the 700m.

AFFABILITY – Bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the mare had bled, it would now incur a life ban from racing.

SAVAROSA – When being mounted in the enclosure, reared over. Was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to leaving the enclosure and again on arrival at the barriers and on both occasions was passed suitable to race. Trainer B Healey was advised a warning will be placed on the mare’s pre-race behaviour. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

LOVEULIKEALOVESONG – Jockey R Fradd reported that the filly failed to travel strongly at any stage during the event. Following the event Jockey Fradd recommended to connections to apply blinkers to the filly’s gear for it’s upcoming starts.

THE WOLVERINE – Began awkwardly, losing ground. Improved onto heels near the 50m and was steadied.

Race 2: WORRELLS Maiden Handicap 1100 metres

The start of this race was conducted manually due to a fault with starting mechanism.

LIGHT OF DUBAI – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages, was ridden forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader near the 900m. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

MAGURO – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start. Near the 900m, put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced. Cast its off fore plate in running.

ENTERPRISE BELLA – Began awkwardly.

Race 3: KORDAMENTHA RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1100 metres

TOP BABE – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer R Drysdale advised that at the mare’s only prior start in his stable at Casino on 1st of October 2022, the saddle shifted during the event, placing the rider at a disadvantage. Mr Drysdale added that since arriving in his stable, the mare had been working well and based on this he had expected a forward showing in today’s event.

HAUNTED HOUSE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Hung out throughout the event and was unable to be pressured by its rider in the home straight. Trainer B Gorman was advised that the mare will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next racing.

VALE STREET – As there were no suitable apprentice available, stewards permitted jockey B Appo to replace apprentice C Collis as the rider of the gelding. Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed.

Race 4: COR CORDIS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1100 metres

This race was run in heavy rainfall. Subsequently the track was downgraded to a heavy 9 retrospective to include this event.

BARONESSA – Upon jumping, apprentice Y Lewis’s saddle shifted backwards. Consequently approximately 100m after the start the mare put in a number of awkward strides. During the event it was noted that packing from under the saddle of apprentice Lewis had been displaced. Subsequently this loss of packing was of negligible effect and apprentice Lewis returned to scale at her allotted weight. Cast its off hind plate in running.

Race 5: HALL CHADWICK BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1700 metres

Following the running of race 4, stewards consulted a delegation of senior riders in relation to concerns relating to visibility in the previous event. The riding group advised that based on the current conditions, they were prepared to continue riding on a race by race basis as they were not satisfied that the conditions had deteriorated to a level to be considered unsafe at this stage.

This race was run in heavy rainfall. Subsequently the track was downgraded to a heavy 10 retrospective to include this event.

FUSAICHI FAMILY – Jockey J Taylor reported his mount failed to handle the prevailing weather and track conditions.

Race 6: HALL CHADWICK BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1700 metres

Following the running of race 5, stewards consulted a delegation of senior riders in relation to concerns relating to visibility in the previous event. The riding group advised that based on the current conditions, they were prepared to continue riding on a race by race basis as they were not satisfied that the conditions had deteriorated to a level to be considered unsafe at this stage.

LOVE STRUCK – Jockey S Cormack reported that the gelding at no stage travelled comfortably on the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

LORD MARKEL – Began awkwardly.

Following the running of this race stewards interviewed all riders who rode in this event as well as all riders engaged in the following event in relation to the viability of the meeting continuing owing to the deterioration of the track and associated visibility concerns. It was the unanimous view of all riders that the visibility had been reduced to a level that was now unsafe to continue racing and therefore was their opinion that the meeting should not proceed. Having regard to the opinions of the riding group, stewards agreed that the meeting should not proceed and after consultation with Racing Queensland and race club officials, the meeting was abandoned at approximately 3:50pm.
