GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 2 – ANATINI - M. Cahill +1kg (55kg)
Race 7 – MAID TO FIT - J. Orman +0.5kg (56kg)
 
 
Race 1: TAB MAIDEN PLATE (1666m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the official photo for the declared dead-heat finish between TAMBOURINE MAN and JENNI INDIA JUNGLE. Weight was further delayed allowing Rider M. Cahill to view the footage in the home straight before electing to not lodge an objection. When Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
ALIGN THE PLANETS – Hampered between runners on jumping.
 
BOOG'S BOY – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
ROYAL COURT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TAMBOURINE MAN – Shifted out on jumping and bumped ALIGN THE PLANETS. Held up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Near the 200m, became awkwardly placed on heels of POWER FLASH before obtaining clear running. Shifted in over the concluding stages, tightening POWER FLASH. Rider M. Cahill was advised to exercise greater care.
 
JENNI INDA JUNGLE – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn before continuing to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
POWER FLASH – Trainer T. Gollan advised that the mare would be ridden further forward if circumstances permitted. Began well and led throughout. Over the concluding stages, tightened for room when TAMBOURINE MAN shifted in.
 
SURLALUNE – Co-trainer G. Lane advised the stable would attempt to ride SURLALUNE more conservatively if circumstances permitted. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of its rider and was passed fit to start. Over-raced during the early stages before racing wide and without cover thereafter. Eased down in the home straight. On return to scale, was found to have dislodged its tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Co-trainer G. Lane was advised that SURLALUNE’s nomination would be refused at Metropolitan TAB Meetings until it establishes form at country and provincial level.
 
 
Race 2: SEVEN CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1666m)
 
RISING PACIFIC (NZ) – Raced keenly during the early stages. Taken wider rounding the home turn when TOOLATEMATE laid out. Laid out over the concluding stages momentarily taken wider.
 
ESKY (NZ) – Began only fairly. Momentarily taken wider by RISING PACIFIC over the concluding stages.
 
MELANIN (NZ) – Bumped shortly after the start with ANATINI.
 
ANATINI – Bumped shortly after jumping with MELANIN.
 
 
Race 3: KINGSLEY LAWSON LAWYERS MAIDEN HANDICAP (800m)
 
A LOT OF BOOTY – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
REASONABLY ROYAL – Inside the 700m, became momentarily crowded and obliged to ease when racing in restricted room between LORD VADER and EVER SO CLEVER.
 
MINK CONDITION – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels and obliged to steady approaching the 700m. Momentarily crowded for room near the 200m before being shifted wider. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
CHAKRA BOY – Began awkwardly. Held up on heels until the 200m before shifting wider to obtain clear running. Taken wider by MINK CONDITION over the concluding stages.
 
LORD VADER – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Inside the 700m, inconvenienced and shifted in to avoid heels when REASONABLY ROYAL shifted in. Apprentice C. Waddell was advised to exercise to exercise greater care.
 
VESPER LYND – Hung-out rounding the home-turn. Held-up for clear running on the heels of AVOIDING HER until the 200m before shifting inwards to obtain clear running. 
 
AVOIDING HER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not raced since August 2021 and passed fit to start.
 
KENTUCKY ROSE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 4: RIVER 94.9FM BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (800m)
 
DOLLOP – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
CAPITAL REIGN – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid out under pressure approaching the 600m.
 
KING OF THE DESERT – Contacted on jumping.
 
SEQUESAY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RUBY CHICKS – When questioned regarding the performance, Rider J. Orman stated that the mare travelled well, however was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying mild signs of heat stress.
 
PALAWA KANI – Slow to begin. Entering the home straight, obliged to be shifted marginally wider to obtain clear running when LIQUOR shifted out.
 
BOBBY AXELROD – As the gelding had not raced in nearly twelve months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Approaching the 600m, raced keenly on the heels of CAPITAL REIGN which was laying out for several strides. 
 
CABRINELLA – Began awkwardly. Whilst racing keenly leaving the 600m, became very awkwardly placed on the heels of PIANIST which crossed was not fully clear, bumped the running rail and lost ground. Jockey M. Hellyer, rider of PIANIST, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
BOLD RUMBLE – Began awkwardly and bumped KING OF THE DESERT.
 
LIQUOR – Raced keenly rounding the home turn.
 
PIANIST – Slow to begin.
 
After the running of race 4, the track was upgraded to a Good (3).
 
 
Race 5: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 2 PLATE (1200m)
 
MAXIE TAP (NZ) – Raced keenly on the heels of LATAKIA inside the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CASROCK – Bumped on jumping with LATAKIA. After beginning well from the widest barrier, may have settled further forward than expected.
 
LATAKIA – Bumped on jumping with CASROCK. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
SUGARPIEHONEYBUNCH – Stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. In the early stages of the home straight, momentarily held up on the heels of LA SOEUR before obtaining a narrow run between horses.
 
GRACIE BLUE – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at barriers and passed fit to start.
 
 
Race 6: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1100m)
 
HODGSON – Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
KIRRA LASS – Trainer S. Lee was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for the late declaration of Apprentice B. Wheeler as the rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly.
 
WHY WE DRINK – Began awkwardly before being shifted behind runners in the early stages. 
 
VAST KAMA – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HAMILTON HILL – Laid in leaving the 200m, crowding XERRI, bumping with that runner, and becoming momentarily unbalanced.
 
JIMMY'S DREAM – Approaching the 200m, laid in under pressure, momentarily tightening HAMILTON HILL.
 
XERRI – Raced keenly on heels shortly after the start before being marginally crowded inside the 1000m. Stewards questioned the tactics adopted by Apprentice M. Kennedy on the gelding, particularly the lack of vigour shown in attempting to improving into a run between VAST KAMA and I AM VOODOO when entering the home straight until a point inside the 100m. Apprentice Kennedy stated that at the time she felt there was insufficient racing room to improve into the run, however in hindsight she agreed she had erred by not making greater efforts in attempting to improve between runners. Stewards noted Apprentice Kennedy’s explanation, however referred the matter to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Team for review. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
I AM VOODOO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
MOUETTE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ORIGINAL GLAZE – Began awkwardly and shifted behind runners. Leaving the 200m, became crowded between UNCLE BUD and HAMILTON HILL both of which shifted ground, and was obliged to restrain before being bumped by HAMILTON HILL and becoming unbalanced. Apprentice J. Molloy and Rider T. Marshall were advised to exercise more care and straighten their mounts sooner.
 
WINE NOT ROSES – Held up early before being obliged to shift in and away from heels of MOUETTE to obtain clear running.
 
UNCLE BUD – Became momentarily unbalanced leaving the 200m after shifting outwards.
 
 
Race 7: SIRROMET BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1350m)
 
CRANKY HARRY – Trainer J. Bruce advised of a change of tactics in that the gelding would attempt to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden on-pace. Began awkwardly. Raced keenly during the early stages. Approaching the 800m, commenced to race keenly on the heels of HEARSAY and obliged to shift wider. Rounding the home-turn brushed with HEARSAY.
 
FOREVER VOLO – Taken wider approaching the 800m when CRANKY HARRY shifted out from heels whilst racing keenly. Raced wide and without cover from that point thereafter.
 
BALDASSARE – Approaching the 1100m, commenced to race keenly on heels when HEARSAY crossed without being fully clear. Apprentice D. McGillivray, rider of HEARSAY, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have general muscle soreness and the thumps. Stable representative L. Kilner undertook to report back to the Stewards in the coming days.
 
HEARSAY – Rounding the home-turn brushed with CRANKY HARRY.
 
TAIRUA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
MAID TO FIT – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
SIZZLING GAL – Began awkwardly before being shifted behind runners in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BETTER STRINGS – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn.
