NOW AND BEN – Over raced in the early stages. Approaching the 500m, became awkward in its action whilst racing greenly. Tightened for room near the 350m, then shifted out abruptly when awkwardly placed on the heels of MILEY’S MEMORY, resulting in HOPE IS GOOD clipping the heels of NOW AND BEN, blundering and almost dislodging jockey N. Thomas. As a consequence, DESTINY’S DANCER was severely hampered and shifted out, taking PONTYPRIDD wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an injury to the inside hock.

CHASING JACKLEY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up from rounding the home turn until the approaching the 100m, before shifting out to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding round the home turn and in the early part of the straight, Jockey J. Lloyd explained a tight run started to develop between OLYMPIC LEGEND and MOTION LEGEND on straightening, but when both those horses shifted ground, his mount was then held up until approaching the 100m before he elected to shift to the outside of MOTION LEGEND, to gain clear running. He added CHASING JACKLEY made strong ground over the concluding stages. When shown footage of the race around the home turn, Jockey Lloyd agreed he had erred in not steadying and coming to the outside of MOTION LEGEND then, which would have afforded him an uninterrupted run from entering the home straight. Stewards however were not of the opinion that jockey Lloyds riding at that stage of the race was of a standard that would be culpable under the rules of racing and took no further action.
