Approaching the winning post, improved onto the heels of TSZYUYA and had to be steadied. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, in particular regarding his decision to restrain to the rear of the field near the 600m, Jockey A. Goindasamy explained that his instructions were to allow CHICAGO KING to attempt to settle in a forward position however also to have the gelding position where comfortable. He further added that after beginning only fairly, he applied pressure to the gelding in an effort to race in a forward position however when other runners show greater speed he decided to restrained rather than being caught wide. Jockey A. Goindasamy further stated, that rather than continuing to follow MAGICAL EYE near the 600m, he elected to shift in rather than to race wide on the track, as he felt he would have been forced wider by other runners rounding the home turn and this would have had a detrimental effect on the geldings finishing effort. RACE 6: GORDON'S GIN CLASS 1 PLATE    1680 M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by jockey R. Maloney, rider of the second placed CHERISH THE DAY against the 1st placed CARNEGIE HILL (Apprentice J. McMurray), alleging interference approaching the100m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, were of the opinion that leaving 150m  CARNEGIE HILL commenced to shift in under pressure and at a point near the 100m, contacting CHERISH THE DAY, resulting in CHERISH THE DAY becoming unbalanced. When considering the interference suffered to CHERISH THE DAY, where the interference occurred, and the margin between both runners at the conclusion of the race, Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred, CHERISH THE DAY would have finished ahead of CARNEGIE HILL at the conclusion of the event and therefore upheld the protest, and declared correct weight on the new numbers of: 12 – 1 - 4 – 5.
