GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights –
 
Race 2: Jockey J. Huxtable +0.5 (56.5kg)
Race 6: Jockey J. Huxtable +1kg (56.5kg)
 
As Jockey K. Zechner was indisposed, changes were made as per the race day summary. Jockey K. Zechner was advised that a medical would be required prior to racing again.
 
Apprentice C. Sutherland was unable to fulfil his riding engagement in Race 3 for acceptable reasons and was replaced as per the race day summary.
 
Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a Good 3 at 12:22pm.
 
Trainer T. Gollan was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting THE LITTLE PUMPER without pre-race blinkers in Race 5. 
 
 
Race 1: GORDON'S GIN MAIDEN PLATE      1350 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 7 mins owing to SPIRITUAL RHYTHM rearing and breaking through the front barrier partition and galloping for a considerable distance before being recaptured. As a result, SPIRITUAL RHYTHM was declared a late scratching at 1:20pm on veterinary advice. Trainer D. Bougoure was advised that SPIRITUAL RHYTHM would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on SPIRITUAL RHYTHM be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st KICKUPHIGH 0c win, 3c place
2nd CHICAGO KING 2c place
3rd SOME STYLE 0c place
 
ARTISTIC TOUCH – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the heels of KICKUPHIGH, when that horse was taken out over the concluding stages.
 
DIVINE DI – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground.
 
SOME STYLE – When asked to comment on the performance of SOME STYLE, Jockey A. Jones indicated that from the wide barrier she had been forced to work very hard to obtain the lead in the early stages when crossing runners to the inside and in her opinion, this had detrimental effects to SOME STYLE’s finishing efforts.
 
MARKMEN – Near the 1000m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SILVER SPOON, which shifted in while racing greenly. A post- race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to its near foreleg. Following today’s disappointing performance, Trainer’s representative B. Killian was advised that MARKMEN would be required to officially trial. The stable indicated that the colt would now be sent for a spell.
 
SILVER SPOON – Jockey C. Graham reported at scale that her mount raced greenly throughout today’s event.
 
ALKEBULAN – Steadied near the 800m to allow SILVER SPOON to cross when obtaining cover.
 
KICKUPHIGH – Inconvenienced and forced wider over the concluding stages when CHICAGO KING shifted out under pressure. Apprentice J. McMurry the rider of CHICAGO KING was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a).
 
 
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1200 M

ATOMIC TIME (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Improved to the inside of GUARDSMAN passing the 500m and raced in restricted room until leaving the 200m.
 
PECCAVI – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and had to be checked after improving onto heels near the 200m and then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event and went to the finishing line without being fully tested.
 
READY FOR ZION – Held up rounding the home turn. Had to be steadied approaching the 200m after attempting to secure a run to the inside of the tiring SURE START where there was insufficient room to do so. Stewards inquired into this incident and issued Jockey J. Huxtable, the rider of READY FOR ZION, with a severe reprimand under the provisions of AR 131(a).
 
GUARDSMAN – Obliged to race in restricted room momentarily near the 800m when racing to the inside of ARMES. Shifted out to obtain clear running and raced wide from the 600m.
 
Race 3: TAB MAIDEN PLATE       1710 M

ALZURRI – Raced extremely wide when being ridden forward to the lead until approaching the 1100m. Commenced to weaken from the 600m.
 
CAVARETTA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
EVELYN MAY (NZ) – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
JAM PACKED – Near the 600m, was obliged to restrain from heels and lost ground when racing behind the weakening ALZURRI and as a result was unable to improve until near the 250m.
 
LEXY ROSE – Raced extremely wide in the early stages when being ridden forward in an attempt to obtain the lead. Restrained from the 1200m to obtain cover whilst being obliged to race three wide throughout.
 
PARISIENNE PIPER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SOUTHERN DRAW. Near the 600m, was obliged to restrain from heels and lost ground when racing behind the weakening ALZURRI and as a result was unable to improve until near the 250m. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that in his opinion the mare may not have appreciated today’s racing surface.
 
PERHAPS PERHAPS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SOUTHERN DRAW. Held up and restrained from heels from the 600m until approaching the 250m.
 
KURITHEA – Raced three wide throughout.
 
WITNESS DIS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SOUTHERN DRAW – Hampered at the start.
 
Race 4: SEVEN NEWS CLASS 3 PLATE        1710 M

BRINGME – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
PRADO – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Forced wider near the 450m when RASHFORD shifted out in an attempt to improve.
 
READY AZZ EVA – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
RASHFORD – When questioned regarding the performance of RASHFORD, Jockey R. Maloney stated that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout, however when asked for an effort approaching the home turn, failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
VALIMI (FR) - Laid in for the majority of the event.
 
WARNA – When questioned regarding the performance of WARNA, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported that the gelding travelled comfortably, however in his opinion raced flat having had some time off between runs and would appreciate softer racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TORTILLA – Slow to begin and was then hampered.

Race 5: RAY WHITE IPSWICH CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
ARALETTA – Near the 1000m, had to be checked to avoid the heels of SHES FASHIONABLE which shifted out when over-racing.
 
DETAIN (NZ) – Jockey A. Mallyon reported that the mare travelled comfortably up until the home turn however when asked for an effort, failed to respond to riding and was disappointing. He further added that in his opinion, DETAIN (NZ) may not have appreciated todays racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

ANARITA – Slow to begin.
 
SHE'S FASHIONABLE (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages and had to be checked from the heels of I’M ZAC near the 1000m and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Trainer B. Lockwood was notified that in accordance with AR79(4), SHE’S FASHIONABLE shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward. 
 
I'M ZAC – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1350 M

FUNKY ME – Steadied whilst weakening after passing the 200m when TECHNA shifted out to improve.
 
TECHNA – Held up rounding the home turn and had some difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
MISS LINNY – Race wide for the majority.
 
KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
POWER OF SUCCESS – Raced wide in the early stages when pressing forward to take up a leading position. Apprentice J. McMurray was fined $200 under the provisions of AR 211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
 
 
GROOVE JET – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
WARRIOR HEAD –Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 1000m to the inside of BREEZIN', which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Maloney, the rider of BREEZIN' was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a). Raced wide.
 
Race 7: RIVER 94.9FM BM68 HANDICAP      1350 M

RUSSIAN SUB – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported at scale that he became concerned with the gelding’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MAYNE – Began awkwardly.
 
GELATIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted out to improve passing the 400m and had to be steadied from the heels of NINJITZOU near the 300m, before shifting out and then being disappointed for a run to the inside of GRAMMAR LAD when leaving the 200m when that horse shifted in slightly before then shifting out and obtaining clear running approaching the 100m.
 
FREELAND – Slow to begin.
 
MANNERHEIM – Connections advised of a change of tactics, in that MANNERHEIM, from a wide barrier would attempt to settle further back in the field. Ridden accordingly. Over the concluding stages Jockey R. Maloney was obliged to stop riding when disappointed for a run between SENESCHAL (IRE) which shifted out under pressure, and FREELAND which shifted in under pressure.
