SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

ROCKHAMPTON 17th JULY 2020


RACE 2 – QTIS 2YO HCP

Trainer L Rowe reported that SILVER LUCY had pulled up well following its’ disappointing performance in the days subsequent and would continue to press on with its campaign.

Trainer G Green reported that MATAGORDA pulled up with a stone bruise in its near fore and would now be sent for a spell.


RACE 9 – NEWMARKET HCP

Trainer G Green reported that MASTER JAMIE had pulled up well and the intention was to continue with the preparation heading towards the Cleveland Bay in Townsville for its next start.

Trainer J Wehlow reported that INQUIRY had pulled up well and the intention was to continue with the preparation heading towards the Mackay Newmarket for its next start.

Trainer A Coome reported that RAIDEN had pulled up well and the intention would be to continue on with his current preperation.

Rider J Bayliss (DOCTOR ZOUS) plead guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 15 times prior to the 100m and 19 in total and was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence on midnight 25th July 2020 and to expire on midnight 3RD August 2020.

J Bayliss (DOCTOR ZOUS) also plead guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(i) in that he used his whip on 5 consecutive occasions and was fined $1000. When determining penalty, stewards took into account Bayliss’ poor record in relation to this rule.

GENERAL

ALEYSA’S MIRACLE & SHIRANDA underwent pre race veterinary examinations after competing in the past seven days and were passed fit to start.

Race 1: NOEL & JOAN OLIVER MEMORIAL QTIS 2YO HCP – 1050M

ALEYSA’S DREAM – Approaching the 500m, was momentarily inconvenienced by WHICH LILY which shifted in when insufficiently clear. P Cullen, rider of WHICH LILY was reminded of his obligation to be clear when shifting ground in the future.

WHICH LILY – Hung out rounding the home turn.

MOLONGLE DRIFTER – Hung out rounding the home turn.

IMALI – Laid in under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MRS SENNA – Underwent a post race veterinary examination after performing below market expectations, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

REAL ANA – Shortly after jumping away, commenced to buck and as a result was unable to be tested at any stage of the event. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised REAL ANA would be required to perform satisfactorily in two official barrier trials prior to its next start.

Race 2: MAUREEN BARFIELD MEMORIAL MDN PLT – 1100M

CALCULUS – Contacted on jumping away.

KNIGHT FIGHT – Change of tactics – To be ridden further back. Ridden accordingly. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

TICKET KEEPER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after dislodging its rider en route to the barriers and galloped a short distance and was passed fit to start. Apprentice M Potgieter was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and was cleared to fulfil his engagement. In the vicinity of the 1000m, was inconvenienced and carried wider by CAPTAIN FOX.

CAPTAIN FOX – Jumped away awkwardly, shifting in contacting CALCULUS. In the vicinity of the 1000m, had to be restrained and shifted wider to avoid the heels of OYASHIO, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Z White, rider of OYASHIO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding for allowing her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear to do so and was suspended for 8 days to commence at midnight 30th July and to expire on 7th August 2020. In determining penalty stewards took into account jockey White’s exemplary record and plea.

INVESTIBLE – Slow to begin

NOTTA LOVER – Declared a late scratching at 11:05am after experiencing transport difficulties.

STARSONIC –In the vicinity of the 1000m, was inconvenienced by TICKET KEEPER, which was carried wider by CAPTAIN FOX, which was hampered when crossed by OYASHIO when insufficiently clear. When questioned regarding poor performance of STARSONIC, which performed below market expectations, rider J Stanley stated intentions were to settle on pace but from the wide barrier, STARSONIC failed to show early gate speed and as a result was trapped three wide with cover throughout the event. He added on straightening, his mount failed to respond to his riding and went to the line in a disappointing manner. Trainers’ representative S Neilson stated that STARSONIC was having its first start for the stable and had pleased leading into today’s event and could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, but would undertake to report back to stewards the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from the gelding.

NUCLEAR BOOM – Jumped away awkwardly contacting the outside barrier partition. In the vicinity of the 1000m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OYASHIO, which shifted in when insufficiently clear

Race 3: SMARTSTATE RENTALS CLASS 3 PLT – 1050M

BRAD – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

NAVY – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

HI ZERO – Jumped away awkwardly. At the 900m, was momentarily inconvenienced and carried in onto RATHER SILKY when TA CHANSON shifted in when insufficiently clear.

TA CHANSON – Overraced in the early and middle stages and became awkwardly placed on the heels of LINGALONGA LASS rounding the home turn.

LINGALONGA LASS – Was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift in to attempt to improve into clear running, but in doing so, was disappointed for a tight run to the inside of NAVY and had to be steadied as a result.

RATHER SILKY – At the 900m, had to be checked to avoid the heels of HI ZERO who was carried in by TA CHANSON which shifted in when insufficiently clear. A Sewell, rider of TA CHANSON plead guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended for 7 days to commence on midnight 30th July 2020 and to expire midnight 6th August 2020. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Sewell’s record and guilty plea.


Race 4: TAB CLASS 3 PLT – 1050M

ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Rider H Philipps reported that ASTRAL ODYSSEY lunged forward prior to the start being effected and as a result was unable to take up a forward position. Trainer R Shannon could offer no explanation for the poor performance and undertook to report back to Stewards on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

EPHESIAN – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running.

SCREEN SHOT – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer J Wehlow was advised that as this was the second occasion SCREEN SHOT had bled, it was now barred from racing.

VOLUM – Travelled wide in the early stages.

GREAT FOX – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.

SPARKLING FACET (NZ) – Rider E Smith reported her mount hung from the 600m to the 400m.

SOLOMON – From the vicinity of the 800m, became awkwardly placed on heels of CATMSOSPHERE and had to be steadied on a number of occasions.

Race 5: SEVEN NEWS MACKAY CLASS 6 PLT – 1560M

LE DUDE – Overraced in the early stages. Rider A Sewell reported his saddle shifted soon after jumping, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

NADEEM ESPIRIT – Slow into stride.

SO YOU DREAM – Jumped away awkwardly

ZOURKHAN (IRE) – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider A Butler stated his mount failed to travel at any stage of the event and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. Trainer Z Hohn stated she could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and stated she would discuss the immediate racing career with owners and report back to stewards. Z Hohn was advised that ZOURKHAN (IRE) would be required to prove its competitiveness in an official barrier trial prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

TARAKI – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Overraced in the early and middle stages and in the vicinity of the 800m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of TARAKI.

PRETTY MAMA (NZ) – Contacted on jumping away.

Race 6: HIT FM MACKAY & WHITSUNDAYS 0-55 HCP – 1560M

JETINTOIT – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider H Phillips stated her mount jumped well and although was trapped wide, still travelled well. She added however that when asked for an effort upon straightening, JETINTOIT failed to respond and was disappointing. She further stated that she decided not to place the gelding under further pressure over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer R Shannon undertook to report back to stewards on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

AT DUSK – Overraced in the early stages. In the vicinity of the 800m, became awkwardly placed on heels when the pace of the race slackened.

VISAVIS – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

DRUMSHOW – Slow to begin.

REEF MASTER – In the vicinity of the 800m, became awkwardly placed on heels when the pace of the race slackened. On entering the home straight, was momentarily held up for clear running and was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running.

DIAMOND DIVA – Overraced in the early stages.

THE ABYSS (NZ) – Slow to muster speed.

CIDER APPLE – From the 800m to approaching the 600m, had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on heels after the pace of the race slackened. Was held up for clear running upon entering the home straight. Approaching the 400m, was momentarily inconvenienced after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of REEF MASTER

Race 7: SILK LASER CLINIC QTIS 3YO HCP – 1200M

FANAAR (NZ) – In the vicinity of the 700m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of ALEYS’S MIRACLE, which raced ungenerously. Hung in severely on entering the home straight, in the vicinity of the 200m, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Laid out over the concluding stages. Jockey C Whiteley was questioned in relation to his whip technique adopted over the concluding stages. After contacting LAST EDITION in the run to the finish, jockey Whiteley stated that whilst racing tight, he attempted to make use of his whip but in doing so, he became entangled with jockey J Stanley, rider of LAST EDITION and after becoming aware of this, attempted to modify his whip strikes over the concluding stages. Stewards noted his explanation. Trainer T Bannon was advised a warning would be placed on the record of FANAAR in regards to hanging.

BOSS BABY – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened noticeably in the straight, revealed no abnormalities.

LAST EDITION –

ALEYSA’S MIRACLE - Attempted to buck shortly after jumping, raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Raced wide in the early stages. Trainer N Walsh was advised that ALEYSA’S MIRACLE must trial satisfactorily prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SCENT OF FEAR – Approaching the 300m, had to be restrained to avoid heels of STRYKING PRINCESS who was carried in by FANAAR, which hung in severely down the straight.

DUTCH ROCKET – Carried in at the 900m by ALEYSA’S MIRACLE which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

STRYKING PRINCESS - At the 900m was momentarily inconvenienced by DUTCH ROCKET, who was carried in by ALEYSA’S MIRACLE which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 8: BARRY WILLIAMS MEMORIAL BM75 HCP – 1100M

OUR BOY PENDLES – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer D Durand stated that the circumstances in its last race didn’t suit OUR BOY PENDLES, whereas the horse was allowed to easily dictate terms in today’s event. He added that the drop back in distance and the fact he was able to engage an apprentice to alleviate some weight was key for an improved performance. He further added that OUR BOY PENDLES had pleased the stable leading up to today’s event and was confident of a good performance. Steward noted the explanation.

DISTRICT – Raced wide throughout.

SWEET SURPRISE – Raced wide throughout.

COASTAL BOY –Jumped away awkwardly.

Race 9: HL BLACK MEMORIAL OPEN HCP – 1800M

BUSTER BLOCK – Inside the 100m, was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running after improving onto the heels of I CAN I WILL I AM.

MUSTARRID – Jumped away awkwardly and overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

I CAN I WILL I AM – Change of tactics. To be ridden further back. Ridden accordingly. From the vicinity of the 500m, was held up for clear running until rounding the home turn where it was able to improve into clear running.

LITTLE HUNTER – Overraced in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LITTLE HUNTER, which performed below market expectations, jockey J Stanley stated that after overracing in the early stages when placed under pressure on entering the home straight his mount began to weaken and failed to finish off. Trainer J McConachy stated that LITTLE HUNTER may not have handled the step up in distance and in hindsight would have been better suited racing over a mile. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 10: IN-COGNEATO HAIR ARTISTRY CL 1 HCP – 1300M

KING LANDON – Trainer O Cairns was fined $100 under AR206(1) for the late removal of the tongue tie.

COLD POWER – Approaching the 900m became awkwardly placed on the heels of SOLDIERS and had to be steadied. On entering the home straight was disappointed for a run between DAWLISH and MIGHTY MEERKAT. Shortly after was inconvenienced by MIGHTY MEERKAT who had to retrain after being hampered by DAWLISH.

DAWLISH – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.

MIGHTY MEERKAT – On entering the home straight, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DAWLISH which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M Potgieter, rider of DAWLISH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in and was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight Tuesday 28th July to midnight 4th August 2020.

GOING IN STYLE – Rider W D’Avila plead guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish line and was fined $200.

DREAM PIECE – Overraced in the early stages. Approaching the 800m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of CHARLES SEVEN.
