GENERAL
1. The following runners were scratched at 12:00pm due to there being no rider available.
R5: DREAM HIGH, POLLY HOFFA, BITTERBLUE.
R6: THE TYLER, GROOVE CITY.
2. Stewards approved the following overweights.
R1 – Shane McGovern (BRING ME FLOWERS) + 0.5kg
R3 – Shane McGovern (WIN AND TONIC) + 1kg.
3. Following an injury to Apprentice Shae Neilsen in Race 3 the following were declared late scratching’s at 3;15pm due to there being no other riders available.
R5: TAKERU
R6: POLLY HOFFA
Race 1: BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1450 M
METAL BAR – travelled 4-wide throughout; lay out under pressure over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the run of METAL BAR Apprentice Tom Orr stated that the combination of being obliged to race wide, together with carrying 63.5kg had proved detrimental today.
HANG FIVE – travelled wide throughout; lay in under pressure in the final straight.
JETSKI – slow over the early stages.
BENDOLIRRA – Apprentice Shae Neilsen advised Stewards upon arrival at the track that she was unable to claim her allowance on BENDOLIRRA. Given all circumstances, including difficulties encountered in travelling to the meeting, Apprentice Neilsen was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a). BEDOLIRRA carried the carded weight of 58.5kg.
BEYOND STAR (NZ) – Stewards questioned rider David Sparks regarding the run of the gelding which finished in last placing. In explanation rider Sparks stated that the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of BEYOND STAR revealed no obvious abnormality. Trainer Ms. Denise Ballard undertook to advise Stewards should any relevant matter come to light in coming days.
Race 2: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 900 M
EXECUTE lay out rounding the final turn with rider Michael McDonald changing whip hand to correct this tendency. Stewards noted rider McDonald exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ three) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
BLAZING BONNIE – jumped out at the start; travelled wide for the majority.
GEOFF AND JENNY – travelled wide throughout.
THE JILLAROO - travelled wide throughout.
TALLULAH – hampered on jumping.
BETHEHORSE – fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
Race 3: BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000 M
SOOPAT – jumped out at the start with Apprentice Shae Neilsen striking her left foot on the barrier structure and becoming briefly unbalanced. Upon returning to scale Ms. Neilsen was attended by the QAS Ambulance officers and transferred to Mount Isa Hospital with a suspected foot fracture.
THERESABEARINTHERE – travelled wide throughout.
THE BROTHERHOOD – lay in throughout the final straight with rider Jason Barbarovich not testing the gelding over the concluding stages. Upon returning to scale rider Barbarovich reported that the gelding felt indifferent in its actions. A post-race veterinary examination of THE BROTHERHOOD revealed lameness in the near front suspensory ligament. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to the gelding next racing.
BENEVENTO – had difficulty obtaining clear racing room rounding the final turn.
WIN AND TONIC – began awkwardly; travelled wide throughout.
Race 4: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
NOBLE VALOUR – after travelling 100 metres NOBLE VALOUR attempted to buck and in consequence, practically lost all chance. Trainer Ms. Tanya Parry was advised that NOBLE VALOUR must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to next racing.
Race 5: BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 M
SEIRYU - travelled 4-wide throughout.
FORSETI – very slow over the early stages; failed to recover any discernable ground and finished well back. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no obvious abnormality. Trainer Mr Peter Inwood was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding’s racing performance. Mr Inwood advised that he would no longer be persevering with FORSETI as a racing proposition.
NASA – traveled wide for the majority.
Race 6: BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 M
FABULOUS HOFFA – travelled 3-wide on the pace throughout. Laid in passing the 100 metres and had to be straightened.
THE BOI – had some difficulty attempting to improve passing the 700 metres.
JAKAZONE – struggled to maintain contact with the field in the middle stages and finished well back. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Trainer Tayna Parry was advised that a warning had been placed on JAKAZONE’s racing performance.
