SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

MACKAY 26/11/2020 - R4 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3YO HANDICAP – 1100M

ASPEN LAD – Trainer D Johnston reported that the bloods taken from ASPEN LAD after its disappointing performance at Mackay on the 26th November showed no significant abnormalities apart from mild dehydration. He added that he would press on with the campaign with a view to race at Cairns on the 15th December over 950m. He further added that if ASPEN LAD didn’t perform to his expectations, it would be immediately spelled.

GENERAL

Due to an injury sustained at trackwork on 4th December, Natalea Summers was stood down from her mounts and changes were permitted as per raceday summary. N Summers was advised a medical would be required prior to her riding again.

Race 1: ST PATRICK'S RACE CLUB RACES - SATURDAY 15 MARCH 2021 QTIS 2YO - 1050 metres

The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes due to TAHLIA GOLD rearing in the barriers and then needing to be resaddled.

YARRALINDA – Rounding the first turn, commenced to race greenly and had to be steadied off the heels of SHERWOOD PRINCE.

SHESAYSTHANKS – Jumped awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good (4).

Race 2: GIRLS GRAMMAR ROCKHAMPTON RACES - SATURDAY 19 JUNE 2021 BM72 - 1500 metres

DAUNTING QUEEN – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice M Potgieter stated his intentions were to race in a more forward position, but after being slow to begin, was forced to race at the tail of the field. He added DAUNTING QUEEN started to race keenly shortly after the start and when he attempted to restrain the mare, she resented his actions and therefore he elected her to stride forward.

STEELZ TIME – Jumped awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Jockey N Day pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permissible and was fined $300.

CAVALERO – Jockey A Sewell pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permissible and was fined $400.

Race 3: CQARC RACEDAY - SATURDAY 15 MAY 2021 OPEN HCP - 1200 metres

BETTER REFLECTION – Approaching the winning post, had to be steadied when LITTLE HUNTER shifted in marginally. In this incident, J Stanley was unable to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. Lost its near side fore plate during the event.

MR PHENOMENAL – Raced keenly in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: CONGRATULATIONS BENNY CREAR AND NYANYA FRAIN MDN HCP - 1200 metres

The start was delayed approximately 2 minutes after A GIRL LIKE ALICE lunged at the gates and subsequently underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.

TRAQ – Slow to begin. Approaching the 300m, became momentarily inconvenienced when GIRL ON TOP laid in marginally after being taken in by A GIRL LIKE ALICE. Approaching the winning post, had to be steadied off the heels when A GIRL LIKE ALICE shifted in. Apprentice Potgieter was reprimanded under AR131(a).

NEWSHOUND – Raced wide throughout.

BAGGER TWISTIES – Raced keenly throughout.

A GIRL LIKE ALICE – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

STELLAR WITNESS – Stewards permitted A Butler to ride 1kg over due to no other rider being available. Approaching the 600m, had to be steadied off the heels of BAGGER TWISTIES who shifted in when racing greenly.

SHE'S IMPERIAL – Raced wide throughout.

DECK OF ACES – In the vicinity of the 900m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of BAGGER TWISTIES.

GIRL ON TOP – In the vicinity of the 700m, had to be steadied off the heels of A GIRL LIKE ALICE who shifted in marginally despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 5: WENDY MULRY TRAVEL QTIS 3YO HCP - 1200 metres

AERIAL COMBAT – When questioned regarding the poor performance, jockey J Stanley stated that his intentions were to race in a more forward position, however after beginning poorly, was forced to race in a rearward position. He added that when he attempted to improve his position, runners to his inside improved and rather than race three wide without cover, elected to restrain to obtain a position closer to the fence. He further added that in the home straight, AERIAL COMBAT failed to respond to his urgings and didn’t feel comfortable in his action and as a result, elected not to place the gelding under any further pressure. Trainer J Wigginton could offer no tangible explanation for the poor performance, however stated that he would get AERIAL COMBAT fully inspected by his stable veterinarian and report back to Stewards on the results in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ASK ME TOMORROW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress.

PRINCESS RULES – Raced in restricted room from the 500m to the 300m and was hampered shortly after when KETCHICKAN GOLD laid in under pressure.

KETCHIKAN GOLD – Contacted on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PERSAGA – Slow to begin.

REAL ANA – Shortly after jumping commenced to buck placing its rider at a severe disadvantage. Upon pulling up, REAL ANA reared and dislodged apprentice D McGillivray. Apprentice D McGillivray was assessed by on course Ambulance officers and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements. Trainer T Smith advised stewards that REAL ANA would now be leaving his stable. Nonetheless, Trainer T Smith was advised that REAL ANA must officially trial on two consecutive occasions prior to its next start.

SHEMADEMEDOIT – Permission was granted for B Appo to ride ½ kilo over. Shifted out on jumping contacting KETCHIKAN GOLD. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress.

Race 6: CONDON NOLLER CLASS 3 Plate 1200 metres

ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Due to no other rider being available, Stewards permitted apprentice D Graham to replace the injured N Summers. Raced wide throughout.

VOLUM – Jockey A Butler was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out to the finish.

ALONEINABAA – Approaching the 1100m, had to be steadied off the heels of MISS READY NOW.

COMMANDER'S WATCH - Slow to begin. In the vicinity of the 400m, had to be steadied off heels of DUAN PHOENIX to improve into clear running.

MYSTERY ELEMENT – Raced keenly in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of ASTRAL ODYSSEY approaching the 700m.

VERNAZZA – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J Stanley stated that his mount was inclined to race keenly in the early and middles stages and never felt comfortable throughout the event. He added that in his opinion, VERNAZZA failed to handle the increase in distance and would be better suited over a shorter distance. Trainer P Fleming concurred the views of J Stanley and would now look to drop VERNAZZA back in distance.
