Race 1: GIBBS GEARBOX & DIFF QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M

The start of this event was significantly delayed when OVAL OFFICE lost its near front shoe on route to the barriers. Attempts were made to refit the shoe; however, the gelding was fractious and unable to be reshod. Stewards therefore permitted, after consultation with the trainer, to remove the offside front shoe and allow OVAL OFFICE to race bare in front.

OVAL OFFICE Bumped with SHIP HAPPENS on jumping.

SINGER SARGENT Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Shifted wider near the 800m to improve and raced wide for the remainder.

SAVANNAH GANGSTER Blundered on jumping away. Over raced at heels passing the winning post on the first occasion.

KNIGHT BATCHELOR Trainer J Moore advised it would be the intention for KNIGHT BATCHELOR to be ridden more forward in today’s event, ridden accordingly. Slow to begin.

PULPIT Inclined to lay in when played when placed under pressure in the home straight. Near the 600m shifted out to avoid the heels of the weakening KNIGHT BATCHELOR and was steadied when attempting to improve into restricted room to the inside of MAURITA after passing the 600m.

Race 3: BATHERSBY LEGAL MAIDEN PLATE         1100 M

EASILY AMUSED On arrival to the barriers, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off foreleg and was declared a late scratching at 2:12pm on veterinary advice. Trainer D Gafa was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding accepting for a future jump out, trial or race. Upon correct weight, stewards declared all bets placed on EASILY AMUSED to be refunded with the following deductions to successful wagers on the event:
1st: 0c win, 1c place
2nd: 1c place
3rd: 3c place

Jockey D Thornton advised stewards that when passing the 1400m he believed that SHOW ‘EM NORM would proceed forward to the lead which would have afforded his mount a position one off, outside the lead. However, the rider of SHOW ‘EM NORM then commenced to restrain, and he elected to attempt to stride forward approaching the 1100m. However, shortly after this point of the race, the rider of SHOW ‘EM NORM attempted to ride forward again, and he was unable to cross that horse and elected to take hold and attempt to obtain cover behind SHOW ‘EM NORM. However, he was unable to cross PEAK MISS that had improved to his inside. Stewards accepted his explanation.

SOCK'EMSID A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

KAIWI Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages of the event.

STEP ON FIRE Prior to the running of race 5, the on-course farrier raised concerns with the condition of the plates on STEP ON FIRE and that in his opinion they weren’t in adequate condition for racing. After discussions with trainer G Sitek, considering the evidence put forward from the on-course farrier and after noting the minimal time left prior to this race and the amount of time needed to replace all race plates on STEP ON FIRE. Stewards declared STEP ON FIRE a late scratching at 3:08pm. Stewards advised trainer G Sitek that they would be issuing a reprimand pursuant to AR107(1).
