Race 3: TRAVIS SCHULTZ & PARTNERS Maiden Plate 1400 metres

Prior to declaration of correct weight Stewards considered an objection lodged by L Cassidy, rider of 4th placegetter TURN ME OVER against 3rd past the post SAINT BARTHOLOMEW (R Stewart) alleging interference over the concluding stages. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from connections of both runners Stewards found that over the concluding stages SAINT BARTHOLOMEW shifted out under pressure and inside the final 100 meters bumping with TURN ME OVER which became unbalanced. Bearing in mind the nose margin and the degree of interference suffered by TURN ME OVER Stewards upheld the protest with the placings amended to read 12-1-11-10. At a subsequent inquiry R Stewart, rider of SAINT BARTHOLOMEW was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.

D McGillivray stated instructions were to settle back in field with cover, however after beginning well and combined with the slow early pace of the race MINTO’S PARADISE was caught three wide and raced ungenerously when being restrained to obtain cover in an attempt to comply with instructions.
