SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Kilcoy 25th August 20223 Race 3 Benchmark 58Hdcp 1500m:

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for both SISYPHEAN (T Brooker) and CLEAR BLONDE (N Tomizowa) being checked, and MYSTERIOUS LADY (K Zechner) being inconvenienced when crowded for room at a point near the 1000m.

It was established prior to this incident BELLE’S BOY when leading the event hung out badly making the crossing leaving the 1200m, resulting in HURRI BLACK (L Tiilley), MARMION (S Willis) and BELLICOSE (M Powell) all being taken very wide on the track. SISYPHEAN, which was racing in a md-field one-off position, also made the 1200m crossing awkwardly and laid out taking MIKKI EIGHT (D Smith) wider on the track at the same time.

After viewing the available patrol footage and considering evidence provided from riders, it was established as those runners which had been taken wider near the 1200m progressed back toward the inside to re-establish positions closer to the rail, MIKKI EIGHT improved quickly to the inside of MARMIOM, resulting in MIKKI EIGHT which had improved quickly to the inside of MARMION, being taken in and across the running of SISYPHEAN which was severely checked. As a consequence, and when pace of the race was being steadied, MYSTERIOUS LADY when racing to the inside of SISYPHEAN was crowded for room and inconvenienced and CLEAR BLONDE, which was racing on the rail, was tightened for room, and had to be checked.

Bearing in mind the varying degrees of interference to a significant number of runners making the 1200m crossing awkwardly, and the subsequent steadying of the pace of the race when those runners attempted to resume their original racing positions, Stewards took direct action against any one rider other than to advise each rider to exercise care in similar circumstances.

GENERAL

Race 1: THE LAKEHOUSE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600M

The start of this event was delayed approximately 15 minutes to allow the arrival of the race day Vet due to transport difficulties.

STORM FORCE TEN – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. When asked to comment on the performance rider B Wheeler stated the horse enjoyed a comfortable run throughout the event, however, was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.Trainer S Kendrick advised STORM FORCE TEN would now be sent for a spell.

LISSARO – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.

AUTUMN SHOW – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped near the 300m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted particularly in the early stages where it appeared there may have been an opportunity for AUTUMN SHOW to obtain a position closer to the inside, rider J Huxtable explained instructions were for the horse to be ridden in a positive manner out of the barriers and it was for this reason he elected to attempt to take up a more forward position, however was unable to secure the position outside the leader without overly pressuring AUTUMN SHOW. Trainer S Kendrick confirmed the instructions issued with Stewards noting the explanation of both parties.

FLYWHEEL – Near the 300m shifted out to improve and bumped AUTUMN SHOW.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr B Nothdurft, representative for trainer T Gollan, explained I PREFER MINTIES is a horse which travels best when racing on the bridle, however was not suited by the fast pace in the early and middle stages of the event. Bearing in mind the performance today, Stewards directed that I PREFER MINTIES must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

SOOBPURB DANCER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – When asked to comment on tactics adopted when leading the event by a significant margin, rider M Cahill advised it was his intention to race in a forward position, and after obtaining the lead in the early stages RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS commenced to over-race when EXTASSY applied pressure near the 1400m resulting in RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS over-racing and unable to be restrained until near the 800m. Stewards accepted the explanation.
