GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 2 – ANOTHER DAZZLER – D. Smith +0.5kg (54.5kg)
 
As Jockey C. Collis was unable to obtain a medical clearance to ride at today’s meeting, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.
 
Trainer M. Currie was fined $100 pursuant to LR68(1) for failing to scratch HIGHLAND KITTY by the prescribed time.
 
Race 1: 123TRAVEL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1600M

ATOMIC TIME (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped HE’S GOT GRUNT. Raced keenly whilst being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHANCE DE LUNE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
HE'S GOT GRUNT – Bumped on jumping. Jockey R. Maloney reported that after travelling comfortably, HE’S GOT GRUNT commenced to weaken from the 600m. He added that he had concerns with the geldings action in front and for this reason elected not to pressure his mount in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of heat stress. Trainers’ representative was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance and would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
 
MISHANI IMPACT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

TAPAGAL – Began awkwardly.


Race 2: TRAVIS SCHULTZ & PARTNERS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2200M
 
DEMARCAY (GB) – Held up for clear running from the 600m until near the 400m, and shifted out, bumping LA GRACIA before obtaining clear running.

LOYALTY COUNTS – Improved onto heels near the 400m and had to be steadied before shifting out to obtain clear running shortly thereafter.
 
ORMOND ROAD – Near the 200m, improved onto the heels of the weakening LA GRACIA and had to be steadied to avoid heels as a result.
 
UP AND COMER – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1600m.
 
LA GRACIA (NZ) – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, raced in restricted room to the inside of UP AND COMER. When rounding the home turn, bumped heavily when DEMARCAY shifted out to improve and shortly thereafter commenced to weaken and failed to finish the race. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting signs of heat stress. Trainers’ representative was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance and would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
 
HELL OF A PRINCE – Began awkwardly.
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Tightened for room shortly after the start.


Race 3: CIVIL SCAPES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000M

AMERICAN CONQUEST – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and leaving the 600m, shifted out after improving onto the heels of PRECISE TORQUE which shifted out whilst racing greenly.
 
MACHTIG HAVANAGILA – Bumped on jumping.
 
OZZIE INVADER – Bumped on jumping and lost ground and was then restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
TO CATCH A SPIETH – Inconvenienced on jumping.
 
EXCELBOOM – Bumped on jumping. Leaving the 600m, inconvenienced and had to be steadied from the heels of AMERICAN CONQUEST, which whilst racing keenly, shifted out after improving onto the heels of PRECISE TORQUE which shifted out whilst racing greenly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRECISE TORQUE – Bumped on jumping. Near the 700m, tightened for room and had to be steadied when STRIKE WEAPON (G. Cartwright) shifted in and away from POCKET DIAL (R. Maloney) which shifted in marginally before being corrected by its rider. Jockey R. Maloney was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey J. Bayliss reported his mount raced greenly throughout.
 
STRIKE WEAPON – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 700m, shifted in and away from POCKET DIAL.
 
MISHANI INFINITY – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
MISHANI VISION – Bumped on jumping and was then restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Leaving the 250m, steadied and shifted wider to obtain clear running. Apprentice O. Kendal dropped her nearside rein near the 150m, and was placed in some difficulty when attempting to regather her rein until passing the 100m.
 
WALLY'S BOY – Began awkwardly and bumped.


Race 4: MUIR DEVELOPMENTS MAIDEN PLATE 1600M

A BIT DUSTY – Bumped on jumping and then tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced keenly when the pace of the race slackened near the 1000m. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported his mount hung out under pressure in the home straight and he was unable to fully test it to the finish line as a result.

AVERRED – Raced keenly when the pace of the race slackened near the 1000m.
 
GRUNT 'N' GROAN – Bumped on jumping. When the pace slackened near the 1000m, improved onto heels, shifted wider and was then ridden forward in an attempt to secure a forward position closer to the fence, however was unable to cross to the lead and was obliged to race three-wide without cover from the 800m. Rounding the home turn, whilst weakening was steadied from the heels of VINCAM ET VINCAM which laid out.
 
VINCAM ET VINCAM – Laid out rounding the home turn whilst weakening, resulting in GRUNT ‘N’ GROAN having to be steadied from its heels. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  


Race 5: WILD  TURF RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1600M

CASANOVA MAN (NZ) – Slow into stride.

NITROGEN – Forced wider near the 700m when CASANOVA MAN shifted out to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
PRIDE OF SAVABELLA– Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in from the 600m until the 400m.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
SAVVY BEE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room from the 600m until 400m when racing between BATTLESPACE and PRIDE OF SAVABELLA which laid in under pressure. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Following this race, Jockey D. Moor reported he had some discomfort in his right shoulder after making contact with the barrier partition when BOLSHEVIC ROAD became fractious prior to the start. Jockey Moor was examined by the oncourse medical officer and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.

Race 6: RESI HOMES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1400M
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when RINGER’S REWARD cast its near-hind plate on route to the barriers and required farrier attention. Subsequently the mare underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

NIGHTSTICK – Jockey B. Thompson advised it was not his intention to lead, however after being caught wide in the early stages and when the pace of the race was only steady, he allowed his mount to stride forward to lead.
 
OKESUTORA – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
STAR ACT – Began awkwardly.
 
SIR GOLDALOT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
SIRKEL – Held up rounding the home turn and was inconvenienced near the 400m when SOUTHERN MONEY shifted out.
 
SOUTHERN MONEY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 200m. Jockey D. Moor reported he lost the use of his off-side iron for a short distance after the start.
