Race 3: ROLLESTON OPEN CUT OPEN Handicap 1100m
Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards considered an application made by J McConachy the trainer of SUNNYCOAST, for the gelding to be a non-starter. After hearing evidence from jockey R Silvera Olivera and reviewing the available replays it was determined that SUNNYCOAST had became fractious and crouched back against the rear of the barrier stall and as a result was flat footed as the start was effected. Stewards were satisfied that SUNNYCOAST had gained a fair start and was attributed solely to SUNNYCOASTS manners. As a result correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
FLANK SPEED – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight.
SUNNYCOAST – Fractious prior to the start and was flat footed as a result. Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned on the performance jockey R Silvera Olivera stated that after beginning poorly, SUNNYCOAST resented the kickback and was unable to improve during the middle stages as a result. Trainer J McConachy was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for being fractious and flat footed.
WRITTLE – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
ENTREPRENEURIAL – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
THE SQUIRE – Bucked noticeably shortly after the start for some distance and took no further competitive part in the race. Trainers representative R White was advised that THE SQUIRE would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards on two occasions prior to racing again.

When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance jockey C McIver stated that after blundering on jumping his mount was unable to regain any momentum and had failed to handle the softer track conditions. JELLISHOT – When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance apprentice A Meissner stated that the mare had travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when asked for an effort JELLISHOT had failed to respond. She further added that in her opinion the mare may have come to the end of it’s preparation. Stewards intended to have JELLISHOT undergo a post-race veterinary examination, however was errantly missed by the race day veterinarian due to other duties.
