GENERAL
Prior to the commencement of the race meeting a delegation of riders and Stewards inspected the track and expressed concerns with the volume of rocks present. After consultation with the St George Jockey Club Officials remedial works were carried out and after a further inspection the meeting proceeded as scheduled with a further inspection being conducted by Stewards and riders after the running of Race 1 and was deemed safe to continue.
Race 1: PRECISION AERIAL / ST GEORGE COTTON GROWERS ASSOC. / SAGU PTY LTD BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1400 METRES
LASCO – Began awkwardly.
SMIKO – Bumped shortly after the start. Rider T Banks reported the gelding resented the kickback. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
DUBIOUS LOVE - Bumped shortly after the start. When questioned, rider R Payne stated the gelding resented the kickback and elected to not place her mount under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 2: ST GEORGE MACHINERY CENTRE RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 Handicap 1150 METRES
SNAKESKIN – Harmlessly dislodged rider proceeding to the barriers, broke away and was caught after galloping for quite some distance. SNAKESKIN was subsequently declared a late scratching by Stewards at 1:33pm.
All monies invested on SNAKESKIN were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
13 cents in the dollar for the win
12cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
12cents in the dollar for 2nd place
12cents in the dollar for 3rd place
SIR OCCY – Slow to begin.
TRISCAY’S WAR PASS – Eased down from the 300m. Rider N Fazackerley reported his mount travel early when placed under pressure didn’t respond, he further added he believed the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
BOSS BANDIT – Raced wide throughout.
HOWLER - Raced wide throughout.
MISS ADRENALIN - Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: CROSS ENGINEERING / TAIT TOYOTA QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 METRES
PRIVET – Raced wide throughout.
EQUAL POWER – Rider N Fazackerley reported the mare laid out from the 600m. Upon returning to the mounting yard it was discovered the near side bubble cheeker had dislodged during running.
KABUKICHO – Began awkwardly bumping PRINCESS MONEYBAGS.
LILY’S DASH - Raced wide throughout.
PRINCESS MONEY BAGS – Bumped shortly after the start and lost ground. Approaching the 500m was inconvenienced and shifted wider when ZOUPHISTICATE shifted out.
ZOUPHISTICATE – Approaching the 500m when shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. App P Fergusson-Smith stated when the mare was placed under pressure along the inside rail became difficult to ride and shifted out abruptly when resenting the kickback. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 4: CUBBIE FLYER OPEN Handicap 1000 METRES
ART BY CONCORDE – Passing the 800m when racing between runners, was steadied and lost ground when ZA HIDDEN DRAGON (App P Fergusson-Smith) laid in. Apprentice P Fergusson-Smith was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident.
PESHWA – Bumped passing the 800m. Approaching the 200m was awkwardly placed on heels when laying in. Rider S Sweedman reported the gelding is better suited over further distances.
KINJINA – Shortly after the start raced in restricted room and was bumped on the hindquarters becoming unbalanced and awkwardly placed on heels having to be steadied momentarily as a result.
MISTREY EMPEROR – Raced wide throughout.
ELECTED (IRE) – Slow to begin.
ZA HIDDEN DRAGON – Passing the 800m laid in bumping heavily with ART BY CONCORDE.
AL ASH LAD - Raced wide throughout.
Race 5: QUEENSLAND COTTON ST GEORGE CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 METRES
GREEK STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Rider apprentice P Fergusson- Smith became concerned when her mount commenced to lose ground near the 500m and elected not to place the gelding under pressure in the straight, she also added that she felt the gelding may have choked down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer W Puglsey advised that he will look to experiment with the gelding’s gear by adding a tongue tie.
LIP SIP SUK – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
WEST CORK – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination. Slow to begin.
PACKAGE – Late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:30pm after a floating mishap enroute to the meeting. Trainer J Halpin was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the geldings next race start.
SHEZAVIXEN – Apprentice K Barker advised her mount started well however failed to travel comfortably in the kickback. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
