THE BRILL BUILDING – Trainer R Vale reported to stewards that following blood tests being conducted, it was identified that THE BRILL BUILDING had a low calcium deficiency and it will be his intentions to treat the gelding accordingly.
GENERAL
Following a track inspection conducted by the stewards prior to the running of race one, the track was upgraded to a GOOD 3.
Stewards opened an inquiry in relation to apprentice J Busuttin returning to scale overweight in Race 2 and attempting to weigh out without a vest resulting in her being unable to claim her full allowance in race 5, in which she was subsequently replaced. After taking initial evidence from Apprentice Busuttin, stewards have adjourned the matter to a later date and time to be confirmed.
RACE 1: RED STEER HOTEL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1075 M)
GALATH (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room for a stride near the 150m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed minor lacerations to its right-foreleg, consistent with being galloped on.
HORRIBLE HANK – Jumped away awkwardly. Was obliged to steady when racing onto the heels of WHENHARRY METELSIE near the 800m. Shifted wider on the track in an attempt to improve near the 500m and in doing so carried WHENHARRY METELISE wider. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer G Richardson stated that the gelding had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and was expecting an improved performance upon its recent starts. ARACELI – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice B Johnson stated that ARACELI began well, however the wide barrier draw over the short distance proved detrimental to the mare’s overall chances as she was unable to obtain a position closer to the rail and as a result was trapped wide throughout. Apprentice Johnson further added that in her opinion the mare felt as though it may have resented the tongue-tie.
RICHBOY HARRY – Shifted inwards on jumping, bumping POWERCHUTE. Raced wide throughout. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
STELL'S ANGEL – Slow to begin.

Trainer N Walsh, when asked to comment on the performance, could not offer a plausible explanation and advised that the immediate racing future of the gelding would be considered within his stable.
IMAGINE THAT – When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, apprentice J.L Devine stated that the inside barrier draw proved beneficial. When asked for his comment on the improvement, trainer J Devine advised that during its last start at Gladstone on the 24th of May, IMAGINE THAT failed to travel at any stage on the sand track, followed by its start at Bowen on the 11th May when the mare was unable to obtain a clear run in the home straight on that occasion. Trainer Devine further added that IMAGINE THAT had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and the stable were expecting the forward showing.

RACE 6: BILOELA PLUMBING WORKS CLASS 3 PLATE (1075 M)
Following the running of this race, stewards questioned starter L Wareham in relation to the circumstances regarding the race jumping roughly 7 seconds early according to the SKY broadcast. Stewards attempted to contact starter Wareham via two-way radio with no response to advise of the fact that runners were being loaded quickly, with the red light activated with roughly 20 seconds until the required official start time. When questioned, starter L Wareham advised that he was unable to hear the calls from the stewards due to the fact that he had handed his two-way radio to another barrier attendant, making him unable to be contacted behind the barriers. Starter Wareham went on to add that a runner which had been loaded in the barriers, had gotten its head down and the attendant attending that runner was unable to pull up and straighten the runner’s head. Instead of trying to rectify the situation, the attendant requested starter Wareham to open the gates, to which he obliged to such request by releasing all runners, resulting in the commence of the race. Stewards sternly advised the starter of the importance in needing to be aware of start timeframes, especially at TAB meetings, and the requirements of making sure he is contactable at all times by stewards, to ensure circumstances like this does not happen in the future. Starter Wareham was also advised that any flaws within his starting procedures must be rectified prior to being required to start a TAB meeting in the future.
