As Apprentice Z. White was stood down by order of Stewards, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1300M

ONLY CHOICE – Slow to begin.

JUST FAVULOUS – Stewards questioned Apprentice A. Patis in relation to her riding over the concluding stages in that it appeared that she had failed to ride her mount out to the end of the race. Apprentice Patis advised that when leading the event she misjudged the location of the winning post and, after having thought she had won the event, she stopped riding from this point. Apprentice A. Patis was subsequently found guilty of a charge under AR. 131(b) in that she failed to ride her horse out to the end of the race. Apprentice Patis’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 weeks to commence at midnight on Sunday 6 October 2019 and conclude at midnight on Sunday 3 November 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Patis’ submissions regarding her relative inexperience as an apprentice jockey, and that this was the first occasion on which she was riding at the venue. Stewards were however also mindful that Apprentice Patis’ had committed a high range breach of the rule in that her actions had, in the opinion of Stewards, cost her mount first placing having regard to the short head margin between JUST FAVULOUS and the first placegetter.

ARCHER’S TREASURE – Hung out for the majority.

BRIS VEGAS – Jockey Beau Appo was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the end of the race.

CLIVEDEN – Improved onto heels and was steadied on two occasions near the 900m, and again leaving the 800m.  Apprentice N. Fazackerley reported that, in his opinion, his mount failed to back up from its last start seven days prior to today’s race.

GREY SKIES – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover for the majority.

Race 2: PENGELLY TRUCKS & TRAILERS TOOWOOMBA ROSES FINAL BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1200M

BOGEY MAN – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey J. Oliver advised that his mount travelled only fairly throughout which he attributed to the fast early tempo. He added that, as a result, he elected to obtain inside runs in the early stages of the home straight rather than shift wider. He went on to say that, in his opinion, the gelding ran on only fairly. Trainer Mr. L. Hatch expressed some disappointment in the performance, however he added that the horse may not have been suited by the racing pattern today which, in his opinion, favoured on pace runners. He added that, in light of the performance, he will now review the horse’s current preparation and report back to Stewards should anything come to light which may have affected its performance.

DAZZLING RED – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Jockey N. Thomas reported that after beginning well he rode his mount forward in an endeavour to obtain a handy position, however as a number of runners to his inside showed superior pace he was unable to cross and, as a result, was forced to race 4 wide without cover throughout. He added that, in his opinion, the gelding travelled only fairly throughout and was under pressure from approaching the 600m, and from this point proved disappointing. Trainer Mr. T. Sears advised that, in his opinion, the horse racing very wide was the major contributing factor to the poor performance, however he added that he will monitor the horse’s post-race recovery before determining if he will continue with its current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

WANT TO BOLT – Had to be eased and lost ground when racing in restricted room near the 900m when TAPA, which was racing to its outside, commenced to race ungenerously with its head in the air and shifted in marginally. As a result, WANT TO BOLT shifted wider on the track and raced wide for the remainder.

TAPA – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

MAKE A RULER – Blundered at the start and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained for a short distance near the 900m.

SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. When commencing to weaken near the 400m the horse was steadied to avoid the heels of LOVE AND LIES (E. Ljung) which was taken out by VICTORY TOAST (A. Sewell) which shifted out to secure clear running. Jockey Sewell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

Race 3: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES PAT O’SHEA PLATE (QTIS 2YO) – 1000M

Upon arriving at the barriers BROOK’S GIRL underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 6.25pm. All monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:

9 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
22 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5

SASSY ENUFF – Made the home turn awkwardly.

A TUNNAH CLASS – A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities.

EVIE’S LASS – Slow to begin. Shifted out approaching the 700m.

MARRIED IN VEGAS – Tightened for room on jumping away. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 700m and, in doing so, shifted out abruptly and shifted wider on the track for a short distance. Jockey R. Goltz reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.

Race 4: DARLING DOWNS HAULAGE MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

OUTBACK CHAMP – Shifted wider on the track whilst rounding the home turn when being ridden along with the whip.

THE GROUSE – Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped by another runner near the 400m.

MYKISS FROMA ROSE – Slow to begin. After being ridden aggressively in the early stages, the mare commenced to overrace leaving the 800m and was then checked from heels for some distance. Shifted out to improve near the 400m and, in doing so, bumped another runner.

BARNEY’S LAW – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 5: CHS BROADBENT CLASS 3 PLATE – 1100M

LEROY ROCKS – The gelding, which made heavy contact with the enclosure fence in the parade yard, was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Overraced when racing in a 3 wide position outside the leaders for the majority of the race.

SEQUASI – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

MADDIARA – Stewards questioned jockey J. Oliver in relation to his decision to shift wider on the track to secure clear running rounding the home turn rather than remaining to the inside of runners at that point of the race. Jockey Oliver advised that when rounding the home turn he had formed the view that the runners directly forward of his mount would make it difficult for him to secure clear running and, for that reason, he elected to shift to the outside of LEROY ROCKS at that point of the race. He added that, in his opinion, the decision to shift to the outside had not disadvantaged the mare as at all times he was able to maintain forward momentum. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 6: O’SHEA FAMILY CUP MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

COCO JAMBO – Slow to begin.

DON’T LOOK NOW – Stewards questioned jockey R. Goltz in relation to his riding from the 500m until entering the home straight. Of concern to Stewards was whether there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of RERUN at that point, rather than elect to secure clear running to the inside. Jockey Goltz advised that from the 600m his mount was trailing RERUN into the race, however when that runner laid out slightly and REG ‘N’ KATH, which was racing to its inside laid in slightly, a run presented between those runners which he attempted to obtain. Jockey Goltz added that from a point near the 400m, after committing to obtain this run, REG ‘N’ KATH shifted out which resulted in him being disappointed for this run. He went on to say that, as a result of being awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of RERUN, he felt the better option was then to shift to the inside to secure clear running rather than restrain his mount to shift to the outside. Stewards noted jockey Goltz’s explanation.

SPUR WING – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was restrained to a position with cover at the tail of the field near the 1000m.

SURPRISE SELECTION – Slow to begin.

Race 7: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT SWEET VIOLET BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 870M

PAPA JO – Dipped on jumping away. Hung out rounding the home turn.

LOVESON – Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed.
