Held up for clear running near the early part of the home straight and passing the 250m, shifted out and made heavy contact with A BIG CHANCE. As a result, rider A Mallyon had to shift inwards and alter his course to gain clear running.

After riding with some vigour early from a wide barrier to take up the lead soon after the start, rider R Stewart was unable to restrain ASBURY PARK, which was racing in blinkers for the first time, and despite his efforts he could not slow the gelding and weakened noticeably as a result soon after straightening. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and signs of mild heat stress.
