Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight had to alter course to the outside of SCOTTISH PRINCE in order to improve. When asked to explain the reason for his mount being further back in the field than anticipated, M. Cahill reported that he expected to be further forward in the field, but after being a little slow to begin the gelding was unable to muster the necessary speed and as a result settled at the rear of the field.

Steward Comment

Had to be restrained to avoid heels when the pace slackened near the 800m, and when restrained, shifted out to a three-wide position, and raced three wide without cover from that point onwards. Hung out under pressure in the home straight and when hanging out in the early part of the home straight rider L. Tilley was unable to ride with his normal vigour. Jockey Tilley indicated that the horse was somewhat field-shy and may benefit from having the blinkers removed. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
