When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey A Allen stated that from the wide barrier he was obliged to pressure the gelding in the early stages to obtain a forward position. Once he obtained a position outside of SMASHED IT, Jockey Allen attempted to restrain the gelding at which point it continued to race strongly despite his efforts resulting in him having to obtain another hold on his reins leaving the 700m. Jockey Allen stated that his intention during the middle stages was to sit back off SMASHED IT, however, the gelding refused to settle. Stewards accepted the explanation.

Pulled hard in the preliminary and as a result underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start and was cleared to race. Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be dehydrated and as a consequence displaying a poor post-race recovery.
