Approaching the 1300m was heavily bumped and lost ground when tightened for room between STARBUSTER and SGURR MOR both of which shifted ground. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that the racing manners of BALERION contributed significantly to this incident and as such no action was taken against any one rider. Shortly thereafter when obliged to settle behind STARBUSTER, raced fiercely until a point passing the 800m.

Forced wider on track leaving 800m. Raced 3 wide without cover for remainder of event. When questd as to performance Jockey A Chau stated the gelding was under pressure passing the 700m and proved disappointing. Jockey Chau was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race vet. exam revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative M Sharpe was of opinion that the gelding may be better suited when ridden less aggressively early and may be better suited on a bigger track. Ms Sharpe undertook to advise stewards of any abnormalities that may come to light.
