Rider B Thompson was harmlessly dislodged on arrival behind the barriers. When the pace steadied near the 800m KERRISDALE was awkwardly placed at heels and was obliged to shift out and bumped with ENTERPRISE ASUGA resulting in COUNTRY SHOWGIRL being forced wider on the track.

After being taken wider near the 800m then raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance rider J Byrne advised the horse did not travel comfortably in the early stages and was unable to muster the necessary speed to cross runners to the inside and consequently raced wide throughout which had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of COUNTRY SHOWGIRL. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
