As the gelding was unable to be pre-raced blood sampled, trainer D Batters was advised the nomination of TOP DOG would be refused until such time that Stewards are satisfied that a blood sample will be able to be taken in the future. The neck strap on the gelding became detached shortly after the start. When the pace steadied near the 900 metres was restrained and had to checked to avoid heels. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-hind leg. Trainer D Batters was advised TOP DOG would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
