Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 700m which resulted in AMBITIOUS SPIRIT having to be checked. Stewards found that AMBITIOUS SPIRIT was tightened for room between ZOUMETEOR and LANSBROOK, which laid in and away from KING’S EXPRESS, which laid in and away from CHART BUSTER. Approaching the 500m, shifted out to avoid the heels of LANSBROOK.

Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of POCKET FULL and was steadied when that horse was taken inwards by SMASHINGPLATES. Jockey T. Brooker, rider of SMASHINGPLATES, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until leaving the 300m.

Slow to begin. Near the 700m steadied to avoid the heels of AMBITIOUS SPIRIT when that horse was checked. Approaching the 500m, had to be checked off heels after attempting to improve into insufficient room between KING’S EXPRESS and AMBITIOUS SPIRIT, which shifted out slightly. Apprentice J. Lloyd was advised to exercise more care in future. Held up for clear running shortly after entering the home straight and was obliged to alter course when leaving the 300m to secure clear running.

Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. On return to scale, CHART BUSTER was found to have bled from both nostrils. Co-trainer Mr M. Hoysted was advised that as this was the second occasion that the gelding had bled, CHART BUSTER would now incur a lifetime ban from racing under the provisions of AR79(4).
